1987 Yamaha Big Bear 350 Grinding Noise Front Differential
qcm413 posted a topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Hi, Thanks for a newbie on this site ! i have grinding noise in my front differential. the front right wheel is turning and the left is try to turn but no movement and make sound like a gear broken. somebody have any idea ? not enough oil in diff ? thank -
Hello, Over the years I have always used a friends machine, and only ride a few times a year. Last week I purchased a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700. The front diff needs a rebuild, the axles are very loose where they go into diff. My question is, both front wheels rotate forward by hand, but do not rotate the opposite direction. Is this "NORMAL OPERATION" I plan on rebuilding the hubs at the same time as the diff..... My question about the rear diff, it rolls as if the machine has a total POSI rear axle...……. I lifted the front end off the garage floor with overhead hoist, as I moved it sideways the rear tires skidded rather than rotate. Both would roll forward easy, but not go in a circle. When I drove the machine in the garage making a tight turn I could feel the binding and skidding of rear tires.... Even if the switch was in 4 wheel drive, when it's hanging in te air the ignition is off...….. with the machine in 2 wheel drive mode, is that HONESTLY 1 wheel drive to allow turning without tearing up the lawn? then it locks the rear axle once it's put into 4 wheel drive? I'm guessing the rear diff needs a rebuild also because there is something "BALLED UP" internally locking the rear wheels together? It's a old machine that was not maintained, I thought the wheels were all rusted, but it was 17 years off baked on red clay. Just wanting to make it a reliable machine. I have great mechanical ability, just lacking a little knowledge of what is suppose to be "NORMAL OPERATING STANDARDS" Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge. Jeff

Hey there i have a question. I have a 2011 Polaris Sportsman 500. Just recently i heard some clanking sounds coming from somewhere when in 2WD (ironically not in AWD) and started checking all the driveshafts only to find that every one of them that goes into the front gearbox is loose. This is both axle shafts and the driveshaft. Its obvious that Polaris has their own unique design with it comes to these things, so what all do i need to know before i go to fixing or replacing the front end?

I am working on my nephews 1998 wolverine. I am replacing all the bearings and seals in the rear end. I need to know how to determine what shim to put on the rear pinion. According to my shop manual you take the number on the pinion gear and the number on the case and do some math. Problem is there are no numbers on the pinion gear. I measured the old one and it reads .18. According to the parts list the smallest they list is .3. Anyone got any information I would appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of or has a pinion for a 1998 or newer Wolverine that is in good shape and they want to get rid of it let me know what you want. Thanks

Hi, I have a 2004 Suzuki Twin Peaks 700 that I recently purchased used. It seems like the front differential is locked as both tires always spin at the same time. Has anyone ever had this problem? Does anyone know what type of fluid goes in the differential case or how to get it to release? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Twin Peaks

Polaris RZR Differential Housing now available from HPD
utvboard posted a topic in Polaris UTV Forum
August 23, 2009 - Princeton, MN:High Performance Design is proud to introduce their new Polaris RZR Differential Housing. These new housings are cast from 356 aged and heat treated aluminum. This alone would make them twice as strong as the die cast originals. They are a minimum of 30% thicker and at least twice as thick in the pinion to output areas. It is highly unlikely that these housings will More...-
