Bayou 220 won't start -- neutral light in every gear
Ajmboy replied to deckeda's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
I used to own a 2002 Yamaha Bayou 220, good 2WD utility quad. 👍 I would first check the neutral safety switch. The light being on in every gear makes me think its no good. After that I would start checking from the ignition switch on. -
I agree with @WarPepper go through all your connections and make sure that new battery is charged 😜

Welcome to QUADCRAZY!

I've never used one and mostly just use a jack or car ramps. Unless you are a shop or do a ton of work on ATVs, I just don't see the need to buy a table lift (although standing height is nice to work) when you can get a far cheaper solution with an extended jack like all of these on Amazon: ATV Lifts I personally like something like this ATD Tools 7461 Motorcycle/ATV Jack - 1500 lbs. Capacity

Great photos! Have you looked at Suzuki king quads or yamaha grizzlys with PS and IRS? I had a 700 king quad without PS and it was a nice ride, very comfortable. The PS version is even better.

You need to take apart the u-joint and then take the yoke bolt off with an impact gun to remove the yoke. That should allow you to take the seal off on that I believe.

So if the starter sounds like its spinning but not turning the motor over, it's not engaging. My first guess would be you have a bad starter. If the starter was clicking then maybe the starter solenoid would be bad but the fact that you hear it spinning it may have something wrong with the pinion gear. Or, it could be the flywheel which has to engage with the pinion gear to turn the engine. Is the starter position adjustable at all? I would pull the starter our to inspect. Here's a picture of a typical automotive style starter

Polaris Industries of Medina, Minn., is recalling about 1,160 Polaris RZR 570 and RZR S 570 recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs). The front brake can detach, posing crash and injury hazards. No incidents or injuries are reported. This recall involves all model year 2017 Polaris RZR 570 and RZR S 570 recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs), including RZR EPS 570 or RZR S 570 EPS vehicles which have electronic power steering. Model number Z17VJE57AR was sold in red, model number Z17VHE57AU in silver and model number Z17VHA57A2 in white. The model number can be found on the manufacturing data label, near the right front fender. The two-seat ROVs have “Polaris” stamped on the front grill and RZR or RZR S on the side of the rear cargo. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is printed on the frame on the driver’s side towards the rear of the vehicle. The ROVs, manufactured in Mexico, were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from December 2016, through June 2017, for about $8,500. What to do Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ROVs and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair. Polaris is contacting all known purchasers directly. Consumers may contact Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. (CT) Monday and Friday, or online at www.polaris.com and click on “Off Road Safety Recalls” at the bottom of the page for more information.

Polaris recall in the news.... The recall on Wednesday involved 25,600 Polaris Sportsman 570 all-terrain vehicles issued under model year 2014. On July 20, Polaris recalled about 1,160 of its 2017 RZR 570 recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs). Authorities in the US say the USA -built ATVs can develop a fuel leak that can see fuel get into the headlight pod and this poses a fire hazard. No injuries were reported. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Polaris received 30 reports from customers about fuel leaking into headlights and four reports about fires. We will bring you details of any Australian recall of the Polaris ATVs as those details come to hand. The ATVs were sold in several colors. The second recall involves 2017 Polaris RZR 570 and RZR-S 570 ROVs sold from December through June for about $8,500. "Polaris is contacting all known purchasers directly", CPSC said in its recall notice. To schedule a recall fix, call Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, or contact the company online. Did you try the starter fluid test just to make sure its not fuel starving? You had mentioned that it would start and then die out, that's usually lack of fuel
-
I had one of these Yamaha Kodiaks but a 450 and after it sat for a while, the float pin in the carb became corroded causing the float to be stuck up. It would startand run out of fuel in the bowl. I would check your carb. When it's just cranking, spray some starter fluid into the air intake. If it starts, it's fuel starved. * Topic moved to Yamaha ATV forum.

I would guess it's a clutch adjustment but you said you already did that. How is the ATV in terms of any rust and such? Just make sure its not the lever itself. Is it idling high?

1987 Suzuki lt4wd quadrunner 250 choke cable installation
Ajmboy replied to Rusty Quadrunner's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
I love projects like this, I'm sure it was a good find. Get yourself some wd-40 and start hunting around for inexpensive parts online. I would also get some cans of rust converter like VHT SP229 Rust Convertor Can or Permatex 81849 Rust Treatment * Topic moved to Suzuki ATV Forum and added ATV info into topic title. -
Have you tried registering at http://polaris.diagsys.com/ and asking there how to obtain just the software?

Question about can am outlander 800 clutch removal
Ajmboy replied to Wayne McKenzie's topic in Can-Am BRP ATV Forum
I haven't done one of these but when you say swing, are you using some sort of slide hammer to pull the clutch off? They make a tool to pull it off and you would use it with and air gun. See video: -
I don't really know except that the entire diagnostic kit is pretty pricey. You have the connectors and are just looking for the PC software? This is the entire kit I believe: http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/detail/polaris/2850077/b3146315

Hi Frank, welcome back and congrats on the new purchase. What year Phoenix and how much did you pay if you don;t mind me asking. I'll look around for a manual. Most of my parts I hunt around for but lately even with auto part, I always check amazon. Polaris Phoenix Parts Amazon: Polaris 2005-2017 Phoenix 200 2X4 Headlight Lens Assembly 0452723 New OEM

Late 90's Yamaha badger periodically won't start
Ajmboy replied to Jim K's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
When you say periodically will not start, do you mean it cranks but doesn't catch? If so, it could be fuel or spark and I would check choke operation, air filter, and lastly and possibly a carb rebuild. If it's the carb and you don't want to rebuild it, you can buy new for around $80 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Carburetor-Yamaha-Badger-Carb-Carby/dp/B00KLKUVR6 -
I'm assuming the battery is fully charged and you have no issue with that. A weak battery could cause this as well. Otherwise, I would agree with @davefrombc and run power directly to the starter to make sure it works. * Topic moved to Yamaha forum and added ATV info into title.
