I wars needing the rectifier, therefore I needed to know the year model. I went ahead and tore into it so that I could see the rectifier part number. The rectifier was for a 2002, so I have a 2002. I bought 2 of the Bear Trackers in the past from the same guy. The title shows one to be a 1999 and the other a 2000. The vin numbers on the titles were VERY close to the other! He bought the quads at the same time brand new. WEIRD!

2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker Voltage Rectifier
texrock59 replied to texrock59's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
I have cleaned all contact points of the ground wire and even shorted between the negative post to the engine case with heavy jumper cables. At a fast idle, went over 200 degrees. Does the rectifier case need grounding also? It's bolted to the frame, but nothing special. -
2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker Voltage Rectifier

Update - Also the battery was at 12.6 Volts before cranking with the new rectifier/regulator. I cleaned the ground connections at the battery and frame, and also used heavy battery jump cable to connect from the negative post directly to the engine. Still running very hot at the regulator. -

I just replaced the voltage rectifier on a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker. I replaced the original rectifier with the same model. I noticed it was very hot - 180 degrees F. It that normal? It was idling for about 10 minutes and charging to 14+ volts when I first noticed. Any thoughts? TIA

Any ideas?

Hey guys. I have a Bear Tracker 250. When I got it, the seller and the title that he gave me, shows it to be a 1999 model from the Yamaha dealer that he bought it from brand new. Recently I decided that my rectifier is bad - not charging. For some reason, I looked up the VIN# on the bottom side of the frame. Completely different VIN# from the title, but this VIN shows it to be a 2002! don't have any idea what the deal is, but.... is there anyway that I can tell the difference between the 1999 and the 2002? My rectifier is on top of the tool box. The manuals for it covers 199? thru 200?. Thanks for any advice.
