sometimes it stays up but you've gotta move it like 20 times to get it in the right spot, then when its started it just falls freely

I have a yamaha blaster that I did some clutch work on, when I put the plate back on and start the ATV the kickstart goes down but doesnt come back up and makes a clicking noise. anyone know whats going on and how to fix it?
