If it shorted itself out it sounds like there was a bad ground somewhere. Look for loose or damaged wires associated with the kill switch. Only thing I can think of. -
Craigslist ATV Scams - Beware!

This is the same thing as Facebook Marketplace. Thousands a day between vehicles and trailers and Facebook won't do anything. If the deal is too good to be true it is a scam. Also if the pictures suck, cropped, background does not match climate, or an email in the picture (usually gmail) it is a scam. Also anything they want money before product it is a scam. -
I had the same issue with one of mine and for some reason it was the winch. Switched the power to a switched source and it solved the problem.

Just a new guy here in the Madison, WI USA area. Have a couple of quads, some always seem to come and go. Recently sold my Ranger to pay for a new driveway (boo!) which just shows that being an adult can be dumb haha. Still have a Brute Force 650, Sportsman 500, and a project Can Am 500. Usually tinkering with something...

I have had the switches go bad numerous times on old motorcycles. If the battery tests good you can unplug the ignition switch and just 2 of the connections. You should get power with some combination. They you know its the switch.
