  1. So got around to doing some checks, all stator legs seem to be grounded, not good. The pick up also grounded on both wires, Not sure how all are grounded but pulled off the cover with the stator, looks ok but havent pulled it off the housing yet. Never seen one that every wire was grounded to the body. Guess ill order new stator and go from there. Az
  2. LOL, I have baked the cdi @ 300 for 10 min. Havent tested it since. Been kinda busy. I still have to check the kill switch, and voltages to see where im at. Happy i found the other download for the wiring. Work and the cold keeping me from working on it. Will report what i find. Thanks Az
  3. The other box appears to be a warning box, maybe a driver for the oil over heat etc. At least that what the wiring diagram shows, I scrubbed the tube where the vin should be but dont see anything. On my old one all i ever saw was the sticker which had the info on it but no vin. Ill have to check again when it warms up here. Az
  4. Ok, update. I downloaded the 85-87 Trx 250 manuel. It showes both cdi boxes but only lists 1 as the cdi box. Not sure what the other one is. At least i have a map. Still would like to know the year of it. Gonna have to do some back probing on the wiring when i get some time. Didnt see this download last time i was on here. Az
  5. Well got another one for the elders here. I recently picked up a Honda Trx 250 in pretty rough shape. Brought it home cleaned it up if thats possible. Motor was seized, Pretty bad shape. I unseized the motor, got it to spin over, Got it to crank on its own with the start button. Got neutral light, but no spark. Fuses good wiring is old but looks intact. Went to check cdi box, here is where the problem lies, I dont know the year. The last one was under the plastic on the crossmember, this one has none. Looks like a sticker was there at one time. I checked the left side of frame by foot peg and nothing. Cant find any vin number. I need to know the year to try to locate a cdi. One clue is this one appears to have 2 cdi boxes. One is a little larger than the other but plugs look identical to eachother. One has green connectors and the other has white connectors. Is this only on certain year model that has duel cdi boxes? I also need a download for a trx 250 Im thinking its about a 1985 or 86 but just a guess. Before changing i would like to check some voltages but need a manual for this. Any guess on how to identify and or get a download for this one would be great. Wont let me post pics only .08 MB Down load available. Thanks in advance Az
  6. Not a 2 Stroke but sure is fun, Would post more pics but looks like 2 pics i posted used up all my allowance. Seems can only upload couple of pics now says all files are too large. Theres a lot of 3 wheelers out there. The nicer ones the people think they are gold and sell for more than when they are new. The cheap ones are pretty much destroyed and or missing ungettable parts so keep an eye out and you will find one. Az
  7. Checked their website, dont have it. Thanks for the reply though. Az
  8. Well body off, cleaned good, painted, drained gas tank, rebuilt carb installed fuel pump, replaced battery, painted the frame and motor. installed front wheel, Got it to fire up. Lots of power for a 250, I live on 2.5 acres, havent got it out of 3rd yet, pretty fast. If not careful will end up on 2 wheels, no wonder they dont make anymore lol. It is missing front plastic which covers frame, Any ideas where to find some. Az
  9. Thought this would be fun, 1985 Prairie, live clutch 250 was pretty rough, carb was in pieces and in a baggie hanging from cyl head. Gas smelled like an old dinosaur. How could i go wrong. It actually came with xtra set of wheels with brand new slicks for the donut fun!
  10. I couldnt open it also. Nice work.
  11. using the gm hei module are you going to get any timing advance? probably stall or backfire, why not use proper cdi? Keep us informed Az
  12. If it backfires on deceleration its usually rich, can try adjusting carb, sometimes changing exhaust requires a little re jetting, Az
  13. I almost did the same thing, have a monster gear reduction drill and was drilling a 3/4 hole for the hitch, well the bit grabbed, slammed my fist into the sharp side of the exhaust pipe and almost dislocated my shoulder. ended up with a bloody hand and a real sore shoulder. Gotta watch those heavy drills
  14. All the harness repairs i do i use 14 gauge, if i was making a harness from scratch i would probably use 12 gauge. I just redid a bayou 220 with melted wiring, missing the starter relay, the ign relay mostly all wiring was gone was just left with 5 strands of wire out of the main harness, Just get a diagram take your time. I used a sharpie to hi light the circuits i was working on, makes it a little easier. Good luck Az
  15. I would bypass the kill switch just to rule that out. Also what readings you get on the pick up coil? With the kill switch bypassed do you get a pulse from the p/u coil? That would be my next tests. Good luck, Az
  16. I have just finished dealing with major wiring problems on a bayou 300 and 220 I know the pain Az
  17. I usually end up paying 35 or more for seat covers, hopefully the info from Ajmboy will pay off lol. I mostly fix the atvs then flip them so the least i spend the cheaper i can sell it. Got to keep the margins in order so every penny helps.
  18. For oil i have been using https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/masterpro-oils-4342/more-powersport-30734/atv---motorcycle-chemicals-25144/motor-oil---motorcyclepowersports-19237/c762ea16fffc/masterpro-conventional-small-engine-oil-10w-30-48-ounce/80019/4495703?q=atv+oil&pos=15 Except the oil is usually a synthetic blend. Guess there is no cheap oil these days.
  19. Sounds like most the ones i end up with. Part of the fun and or headaches!
  20. Just a couple of things since i get various atvs. They always need seat cover and always need oil and other minor items. My question is Do you buy any specific motor oil for them, i heard you must get atv oil or will mess up the clutch. Not sure if correct but didnt want to find out hard way. Is there a cheaper oil or can you use regular motor oil? Next they always need a new seat cover, any good places to buy bulk or cheap vinyl to re do the seats with out spending 30-50 dollars on a specific cover? whats you go to places for parts, i use amazon, ebay any others that offer a good deal? that goes for hard parts or just cables and or clips, wiring, bolts etc no wrong answer here. always looking for new ways to find parts for the older atvs. TIA Az
  21. Well update on charging, received new part from other seller and is now charging. Just need battery and clean it all up. Thanks for the replys Az
  22. Where did you find that connector and the terminals? Gotta link. Thanks
  23. wiring is right, i went ahead and sent the regulator back and bought from different maker. see it around monday. Crossing my fingers. Az
  24. Back again with another headache, maybe you guys can help me out. Picked up a 87 Bayou 300 not running of course, all stator wires melted on the motor and also no spark. I checked the pick up coil ohmed out good. traced the wires and led to no cdi box, yes missing. So ordered it and while waited fixed the stator wires, had to wire direct to harness. Get the cdi installed and after a lot of other things started it up. Battery dead so used a batt charger to start it. Now when i shut off the charger the motor died. So i check charging voltage...nada. I see voltage regulator is old and catalist leaking so i replaced it. Same thing no charge. I check stator and no voltage with it unpluged from harness while running. Soooooo i replace stator. Now Stator wires have 23v and up to over 50v at higher rpms. So i know its charging now. Connect everything back up and no charge voltage at battery! Still dies when i shut off charger. All 3 yellow stator wires have good voltage, checked harness from stator to regulator and is good. The white wire has battery voltage at regulator, the brown wire has battery voltage at regulator when key on. The Black/yellow stripe has good ground. I get 3 volts at battery when i shut off charger. If i connect old regulator i get 7 volts when i shut off charger. Do i have a defective new regulator? Im stumped. when i figure this one out i have a big wiring problem on another one ill let you in on. Az
  25. Dang you live in the deep city, how you find places to ride atv there? Nice pics though. Az
