Bayou won't stay running without starter button held
davefrombc replied to Atv crazy's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
Check the engine stop switch to see if it is stuck on, and also trace the wires. We may have misled you on the relay.. There are two of them. One is the starter circuit relay and the other is the starter relay itself.. If it is the relay , it will be the starter circuit relay. If that is the one you replaced, check the engine stop switch. According to the schematic it should be open when the engine is running. Closing it opens the ignition circuit and kills the engine. Holding in the start button feeds power to the ignition circuit until you release the button. -
If it starts and revs fine for a second and then sputters , it is starving for fuel. You need to service the carb. There is a vacuum piston/ diaphragm on it that may be damaged or leaking. The high speed jet could be plugged or one of the passages . If it sat for a long time with old fuel in the carb, it is most likely badly gunked up.
-
The problem could be a failing spark plug. Fires ok under idle but fails as soon as a load is put on it. If it is in the carb, you could try turning in the pilot screw to closed , then back it off 1 1/2 turns ad try it .. Try screwing the screw in and out from there as fartknocker suggests. Here is a link to a service manual that will also apply to your quad. https://www.quadcrazy.com/files/category/4-suzuki-atv/ Under the browse / download button at the top of the forum are links to service manuals and other useful info for members.

I can hold my own in a debate, but if someone wants to get nasty , I also know how to ignore them.. LOL.. Sledding , quad riding , bikes, trikes or boats... all are open to discussion for those that want to.... and the hunting and fishing that goes along with the riding... Anyway , can't fight if nobody comes in there to start one. Gotta admit . .Haven't been sledding since moving back to the coast from the north... Sleds don't run too well for long on wet grass...That's all we normally have here in winter.

I am a member of neither party too. I am Canadian, and I am not a member of any of our parties here either. Don't confuse going to church or proclamations of being Christian with honesty or any of the social mores Jesus preached. Most of what He preached of social responsibilities to His fellow man are dismissed as that evil socialism by right wing "Christians". I'll leave it to your fellow Americans to point out the voter suppression in varying degrees in their states. Some of the most evil men in history have claimed to be Christian, and some of the people who most followed the social mores preached by Christ were atheists. When you look at the basic tenets of all the religions , you'll find out they all are basically the same. The rituals of the "Big Three" (Jewish, Christian and Moslem) all pray to the same God, but with different rituals, and their basic values are the same.. It is only in how the Scriptures of each are interpreted and applied with cultural influence that you see much difference. It is only when you see the extremists and hypocrites in each of them do you see those religions corrupted into what they are not. -

Have you tried seeing what mainstream sites say about voter fraud?.... and of those convicted of fraud, how many were Dems and how many were GOP? Any fraud committed would not be from only one side. Voter fraud, of which I also consider voter suppression a part of, is far more in the bailiwick of the GOP than the Dems . -

If they find any significant voter fraud , I would contend it would be on the part of ERW conservatives , and should nullify the election .. Unfortunately there is nothing in the US Constitution to mandate a redo of an election no matter how badly it was compromised. You are stuck with Trump and his "team" for 4 years . . You can impeach , but those down the line of succession from him don't really offer any improvement. The fact is , even if they find voter fraud , there is no way of telling who the fraudsters supported, so my contention it was done by Conservatives is just as valid , and I believe moreso than by "Liberals " -

LOL Randy .. That's some "alternate facts" that site uses to describe the fall of Rome. There were several factors that led to Rome's downfall, but none of them had anything to do with feminism or effeminism . . LOL... I would suggest some real study of history, and you won't find any of it on those sites you seem to like to hang out on for your information. If you really study ancient civilizations you'll find several advanced for the time ones that were supplanted by Rome, and that Rome was supplanted by a ruler that had a much larger empire at its peak that was not based on civilization and knowledge, but on pure brutal military power. -

I found the wiring diagram for your Kawasaki online . The ignition switch works through the starter relay, so as quadmaniac says, it is most likely a faulty starter relay.. As long as you hold the starter button you are getting ignition power as well as starter run but releasing the button does not allow power to continue going to the ignition circuit. -
Usually when adjusting the screws on carbs from automobiles to snowmobiles , ATVs and even the older lawn mower and trimmers ,the starting point is 1 1/2 to 2 turns out from closed.. Glad you found the problem and it was an easy fix. Thanks for letting us know .

Water in the case will make the belt slip, but if you have a few hundred hours on the belt I would say the slippage is more due to belt wear.. As the clutches drive on the sides of the belt, they wear it narrower and glaze it . The narrowing and glazing reduces the grip the clutches have on the belt. Not only does that increase slippage , but it reduces both the top speed and low speed pulling power.

Now time will tell if I get to say "I told you so".. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and he proves to be a good President, but to say I'm skeptical would be putting it very mildly. -

We'll see who is looking through foggy glasses beginning tomorrow. As far as Clinton being involved in suspicious deaths , all the accusations against her are coming from the ERW; even family members of the victims discount any involvement by the Clintons. Clinton may be, and most likely is guilty of a quick temper.. I know a lot of people who are, but that does not make her guilty of murder or any other illegal activity. She has not been tried, let alone convicted of anything .. Trump, on the other hand has been tried and convicted of bad business practices, and faces more accusations in court than any other President in history. You have a very one sided and not very accurate view of what the two political parties have done for the common guy over their administrations. There have been good and bad on both sides, and the leanings of the Dems and GOP have made a nearly 180 degree swap since the '60's.. The GOP was the party of the people, and the Dems , especially the Good ole boy Southern Dems were the segregationists and party of the elite.. Now the roles have been reversed, and that reversal started in the 60's. Try doing some reading and news watching in the main stream and stay away from the extremists. . That advice is for those on both sides of the political fence. The truth is out there , but you won't get it from the likes of Breitbart or any of the others who wrap themselves in the flag and spout conspiracy theories and outright lies for sensationalism. Of the popular news services , Fox is the least likely to stick to facts, although the others tend to favor one view or the other to some degree. The same can be said of those on the far left. There are the far left nut case publications both in print and online that are no better with fact and truth then those on the far right. -

Randy , to see the difference between seeing Putin as a hunting / fishing friend or one you can trust at all just search on " Putin polonium " if you don't recall events in the UK in 2006 that Putin was accused of ordering. What I have against Putin is that those that don't agree with him or actively oppose him have a strange habit of turning up dead. Putin is ruthless in his control of Russia, and in his desire to hold sway over other nations. If you didn't bother to search on Putin and polonium, I'll make it simple for you and give you a link to click. Litvinenko isn't the only one to die or end up in a Russian prison because he opposed Putin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poisoning_of_Alexander_Litvinenko -

Randy , I too see far more out there from "conservatives" than from "liberals", in fact the conservatives I see the most from are the ERW.. They are the ones trying everything they can to stop anything they equate with "socialism" whether it is in the interest of the country or not .. They cannot take themselves out of the old cold war and the rhetoric of those days. Moderate conservatives seem to be afraid to speak up against the radicals, maybe for fear of being branded with that terrible "liberal or socialist / progressive" name they demonize the Dems with. When you talk to people in China, Malaysia and Europe, you tend to get a different perspective on how they live and view their governments than what you get from the ERW's ravings. -

There is a tremendous difference between friends going fishing, hunting or participating any other sport or activity, and politicians dealing in international affairs. Those politicians decide what direction the country is going in with respect to business and influence . Friends out fishing or hunting don't have the potential to throw the world into a war or disastrous trade laws. I have friends who differ greatly with me in views on racism, immigrants and "liberal / conservative" views .. We remain friends and agree to differ in our views.. just as I offer to help others in forums where I can without any regard to their social views. What bothers me most with so many on both extremes especially , and far too many that are more moderate , is that the extremes refuse to consider anything that doesn't some from their sites that support their views , and so many in the middle don't take the time to sort out the truth from all the propaganda half truths and outright lies put out by those on the far sides. The years of Clinton bashing and the 8 years of Obama's administration are prime examples of far too much propaganda and far too little looking for the truth. That barrage from the far right and the Extreme Right Wing is what has led to the situation today where people are so badly divided; and somebody who never should even have gotten out of the bottom of the primary is going to become your President . -

Most likely. Far too many believe all the allegations the ERW of the GOP have made against her over the years; even though there has never been an indictment , let alone a conviction, for any wrongdoing by her. She has been and is still very unpopular because of the constant barrage of unfounded allegations against her. Ramifications of the Russia thing? If it is true that Putin has tapes proving the allegations against him, and possibly a lot more in shady business dealings, it could give them a great deal of leverage on him. Trump is a narcissist by all accounts . . He doesn't like to look bad. In my opinion he doesn't know how to tell the truth .. Everything he says is embellished. He constantly flip flops in his stance on nearly every subject , depending on his audience of the moment. If anyone cares to search on Trump's business dealings and the number of lawsuits against him alleging wrongdoing in his business practices, they should be able to get some idea how he will handle his Presidency....I really don't like to see someone I think acts too much like a petulant 4 year old holding the nuclear codes. On anotheer subject .. As far as voter fraud and manipulating goes .. There has never been any proof of widespread voter fraud, or voter fraud actually swaying an election .. I've seen more GOP supporters convicted of attempted fraud than I've seen of Dems doing it .. I'm sure there is some attempted by supporters of both parties; but none successful in swaying an election ; with the exception of gerrymandering and voter suppression. -

On the other side of the coin..... If you remove the years of fake news and false accusations against Hillary Clinton; remove the innuendo that Comey made by announcing in days before the general election of further investigation of e-mail that proved to contain no damaging evidence of wrongdoing by her, and the interference by the Russians under Putin in the campaigns and release of innuendo and more false claims against Clinton, you'd most likely have seen a very different election result .. We'll see down the road how true the allegations of Trump's misdeeds during a trip T Russia turn out.. Personally, I rather suspect they're true..... The GOP got their majorities in both houses , and will have it on the Surpreme Court after Trump's inauguration.. The country is being handed to the ERW of the Republicans and a man who, by most observers outside of the US and most Americans not buffaloed by his rhetoric, is totally unfit for the job. We'll see whose predictions for the Trump Presidency turn out to be on point. I'll be very surprised if Trump lasts one year, let alone 4, ,and I don't think Pence will be much of an improvement when he takes over to finish the term. I also hope for the good of both our countries that I am proven wrong.
