  5. . . . minding my own business and a blow down tree mugged me. If Id been rolling fast id be in a pretty bad way. Got out of it with the first black eye Ive had in decades.

  6. why I only got a black eye . . . Ive been riding bikes of some sort for decades . . they got ripped off with my lid . . . I cant understand folks that wear flipflops on motorcycles. thats the surest way to guarantee your going to NEED a helmet

  7. Tried . . . failed. got a heck of a shiner from it. I'm good at ducking and rolling into the unexpected but oops, ya git hit once in awhile anyway. That last large blow down top was the one that got me. If ya look close as Im walking back after picking up my helmet and cam, you can see stick poking up from the front of my bike. It (one in a million?) slid up in the adjustment slot on my gun (moose) fork and that whipped the tree top down under the visor. I thought I was going off until my lid went flying. Still a good ride and a good day. If Id been on the throttle it would have been bad. Ill take a chainsaw next time . . . once was enough.

  8. I decided to go with Suzuki EcStar 5000 mineral oil, I know suzuki doesn't make their own oil but I was getting a headache trying to figure out which oil was best, I have a tendency to over engineer things. . This oil for this engine that oil for another and then there's the 0w-16 oil I don't know how you get a 0 wt oil. Im from the old days when you used Castrol GTX in your motorcycle and whatever brand you liked for your car. Example: A little off subject but, my daughter got a Volvo XC 60 4 cylinder turbo, she was using a oil change place to get her oil changed, no dipstick, you check the oil electronically, oil light kept coming on after just a few hundred miles, took it to dealer they said they were putting the wrong oil in it , bottom line, castrol and Volvo got together and made an oil specifically for their cars Castrol Edge Volvo, it says Volvo right on the bottle, the only oil for this car, not the same castrol edge you get everywhere else. So I think this may be why I went with the suzuki oil, this little experience took everything that I thought I knew about oil and lubrication and threw it right out the window. Sorry to be so long winded this was an experience I wanted to share.

  9. My favourite riding is on trails with heavy tree cover. I also prefer a heavily ridden trail beaten & worn. My local riding is Rocky, wet & muddy with mud holes & river crossings through beautiful wooded mountains & swampland. There is one mud hole so hairy that it earned the name Scouts Hole because it supposedly ate a Boy Scout. I can drive from Vermont to Massachusetts on those trails. I also Love riding at my friends camp named Widstock. We have been cutting and trimming trails there for 18 years! It's similar to my local riding but with a minimal amount of rocks & more off camber and uneven riding, a nice challenge. It also has a mud hole named The Bog. Starting thirty years ago I used to ride in The Pine Barrens of NJ. There are mostly what NJ people call scrubby pines (man sized pine trees) & lots of sandy trails. The sand is loose in some areas and packed in others. Once while riding on 2 Honda ATC 250SX 3 wheelers, my 1985 & my buddy Joe's 86 we came up to the west side of the Garden State Parkway. I didn't hesitate and rode out onto the shoulder of The GSP. I rode next to the vehicle traffic as quickly as possible and got back onto the trails just as quickly! Great fun in the Pine Barrens!

  11. Definitely the mountains for me, getting to the top of a ridge or coming over a rise and seeing a huge open expanse of valleys, nothing better.
