Hi everyone. New to the forum!

Hers is my issue.

I have a Suzuki LT80 (Not sure what year-I think it is 2002) and it will not start. I was told the starter is new and it has a new battery. I checked the battery and it reads 12.5V. When I hit the start button all I get is a click in the black 4 prong relay. I also unplugged it and jumped the 2 big wires but all it does is spark and get hot. It also gets hot if I keep pushing the start button. I also unplugged the white plug by the gas tank, hooked a wire to it and tried a battery charger...same thing...wires get hot. Then I removed the starter and used the battery charger on it. I hooked the black to the starter casing and the red to the hot lead on the starter...all it did was spark and make the battery charger hum louder. Is the starter bad? Do I need a relay? Both? I also know about the red button under the plastic. It wasn't even tripping so I bypassed it just to try what I could. I'm at a loss. I just want it to run for my son to ride. If anyone can help please do so. Thanks in advance!

It has never had a pull start...was the battery charger too much to check it with? Could I clamp the black clamp on the stater housing and the red on where the wire hooks and use the setting "12V maintainer" I think I may have use the 12v 200amp engine start setting when testing it...I may have messed it up myself somehow. Thanks for the info so far!

I ended up needing a starter. I got it to run and my son can ride but I have to jump the red wires in the plug where the relay goes to get it to turn over. I even bought a brand new relay...plug it up...hit the start button and nothing! I keeping having to jump the wires to get it to start. It should start with the realy plugged in right? What would cause it to not work...since the relay is BRAND NEW???

The start switch/button has been known to go bad.

Tell me if Im thinking right::: You are holding the start button then touching the wires together to make the starter turn?

"I ended up needing a starter"....... LOL...Ray Charles seen that the old starter was bad. :D :D

Ok...it's a plug with 4 wires...the relay has 4 prongs on it...that plugs into the plug...what I have been doing is sticking a wire down in the plug...on the big gauge wires...then sticking the other end of the wire into the plug slot right beside of it...on the other big gauge wire completing the circuit and that turns the starter

Im about out of ideas seeins that electronics isnt my specialty..:(

I read back, when this all started, the button worked fine?

Im stuck on this button thing since Ive heard of so many being bad.

LT80 is right. Something with the start sequence circuitry that powers the relay to close. The one I used to own had a switch on the parking brake. If the brake was off, it broke the circuit to the relay. You have something like that? Do you have a wire diagram for it?

Thanks for the wiring diagram. Yes mine has a handle to be pulled up near the foot brake but that being up didn't make a difference...the start button worked before...now you hit it and nothing...it has to be a wire crossed or something not right because it don't even click or anything...you hit the button and total silence!

Do you get 12 volts going in to the starter button on the white black wire?

If not check power into those switches up stream.

If so, check power out with the start button depressed.

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.

Im aware that this relay needs a positive (+) and a negative (-) to activate the other side. The blue wire is the neutral wire so when in neutral it gets ground. The green wire is from the parking break; when you pull the break in it gets ground (-). however one of those two needs to be neutral so that the positive from kill switch can go to the starter relay. The ground from the starter relay is from the start switch. Which one (neutral or parking break) should have a positive (+) voltage?

Bought 4 wheeler for kids. Used to run and soon as it was put in gear it died. I have put new carburater, new plug and battery. The neutral light won't come on. I replaced the solenoid, then the positive battery cable and today put new relay assembly on. Still no neutral light. Not getting any juice and I don't know why.
