I don't know what to make of this. I have an Arctic Cat 2005 automatic 500 with PVC home-made snorkels that came with the ATV from the previous owner. I finally decided to remove them as I needed the room for the front cargo rack. The flexible rubber tubes where the extensions fit into are the same diameter as the extensions, and end just under the front "hood" cover. Not too different, other then length of the air intakes. Yet, the machine acts like it's not getting enough air. In other words, it lugs down under acceleration or going up hills. Throttle response is drastically reduced, unless you're moving on a level terrain, but, still noticebly less power. With the snorkels removed, the machine is totally responsive, lots of power, and no lugging up hills, actually can accelerate.

What's the deal here? Does the carb need to be adjusted? With the snorkels off, am I getting too much air or not enough? I would think not enough air. Can anyone help with this?

the carb was probably jetted to compensate the extra air ... if you replace the jets to stock, you will probably be alot happier and not have a sluggish bike ... i bet if you take the airbox lid off, it might be a little better ...

I need the rack space too, and the streams here in Panama are not very deep, so I didn't need the snorkels. I did find a half dozen jets in the package left with me by the former owner, so I suspect he did change the jets. I checked into trying to put the original air filter back in, but whoa, you have to take the whole rack, bumper, winch, and plastic off to do that. So no way.

Now...I figured out the perfect solution. I re-routed the snorkels, under the plastic shroud, next to the headlights. Perfect. They're not in the way, still high enough should I encounter 3 feet of water (not going to happen), and it runs superbly. Even can accelerate going up steep hills. I feel like it can leap tall buildings too.

Thanks for your input, I learned something too about jets.

Now, I have something else...I noticed it a couple of days ago. There is an engine noise I didn't hear before. While the engine is running there is a "ting, ting, ting" sound, almost like a lifter or tappet, but higher pitched. Anyone have any idea?

I found the source of the "ting, ting, ting". It's the fuel pump. It just started doing that after I blew "lung pressure" air through the 3 lines connected to the fuel pump. However, I did not blow air into the fuel pump. What's up with that? Is this pump dying? I'd hate to be half way up a hill when it did.

So we are almost a month into winter and I've been so busy working on my house that up until today, I didn't realize that we just haven;t gotten any real snow yet to warrant putting the plow on my grizzly. So that got me thinking, what are the latest plows out there and what ATV plows are the best? I've got 2 snow plows for my grizzly, a quadboss pile driver atv plow set up and a snowsport ATV plow. They are both a bit dated now and I tend to stick with the snowsport due to ease of use and I just like it so much. So if you have a plow on your ATV, please let us know what it is and post a picture with your atv/plow would be awesome. Would also like to know what you like and dislike about it.
This is back a while when I did a write up on these 2 plows.... in 2009 I got the snowsport and in 2012 I got the quadboss.

I have a Sportsman 450 HO and almost killed my self when loading it on my truck with ramps.  It rolled off the top of the ramps and tailgate and nearly landed on me.  I now want to winch the ATV in to the truck.  My question is are the front side bed tiedowns in my 2011 RAM strong enough to winch to without distorting the hooks or sides of the bed?
