I use polaris brand oil for my you guessed it my polaris scrambler 01 500 2x4 its great tell me what you use sometimes i use other stuff but you have to watch out with atv oil some makers in production get dust and dirt in the oil and sometimes even metal particles

I use only Arctic Cat oil in my 650 H1, but I plow and do other heavy duty stuff with it. That oil is more expensive than gold!

My Honda 250 EX however....I run whatever is on sale. We have 2 of those and have never had a problem with either bike. I have only replaced tires, spark plugs and oil for almost 10 years.

Depends on the type of ATV. If it has a VT driven transmission that is seperate from the engine(or has its own oil) then automobile oil of your choice in the proper viscosity will work. Any 5speed clutched or semi-auto with a constant mesh transmission, clutch, and or centrifical cluth should only use ATV/MC oil. POLARIS IS VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT THE FRONT DIFF OIL. IN A 4x4! POLARIS AND ROYAL PURPLE ARE GOOD FRIENDS I THINK.

Using automotive oil in ATV/MC causes serious damage. In automotive vehicles, the engine is always separate from the clutch and transmission so they have separate oils for each. In automotive engine oil, there is more of what is called "friction modifiers" to help lessen the amount of friction on engine components and improve fuel economy. Of course, improving fuel economy has always been the main goal of the automotive industry making friction modifiers a necessity for all automotive oils.

These friction modifiers that are added to automotive oils are what cause serious damages when used in motorcycles. The friction modifiers clog the clutch plates in a motorcycle's transmission causing serious clutch slippage and disabling the ATV/MC ATVS AND MC to be as compact as they are, they have to combine their engine and transmission into one casing. This means that everything is lubricated by only one type of oil including the valves, piston, transmission, and clutch.

ATV/MC require very little and/or no friction modifiers to help improve clutch friction and to prevent clutch slippage. But to make up for this lack of friction modifiers, motorcycle oils use higher levels of anti-wear additives such as ZDDP, also known as phosphorous, to limit engine friction and wear. Since ATV/MC oil has extra anti-wear additives and is lubricating so much more than automotive oil, you can expect to pay anywhere from $9 to $15 a quart. COPY&PASTE

Thanks TEXASBAGMAN! Should I be worried about the Hondas? From now on I will follow your advice!

Thats a good point about Hondas! I have a RINCON 650 here for repair. Runs wont move. I dont know a lot about these Hondas. I do believe they have a unique drive system works off hydralic pressure from engine oil.

Most engine damaged is done when you start your engine not while its running! Mercedes and or Bmw maybe others use electric oil pumps to circulate the oil in the engine the secoud the key hit the ignition. I am not up to date on auto and oiling!

LOTS OF PEOPLE like and use ROTTELLA. changing oil with car oil is way better than NOT changing it. I have put a many of quart of car oil in a many of ATVS MYSELF! Seen the old timer change the filter and add a quart to old farm truck and drive it tiill the wheels fall off. Who knows what is really in that plastic container. I have not tried AMSOIL PRODUCTS. other than had a 2 stroke kfx80 and used AMSOIL IN IT, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. 3 thing i would bet the farm on are CASTROL,ROYAL PURPLE AND SEA-FOAM! that SEA-FOAM is pure magic!

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

So we are almost a month into winter and I've been so busy working on my house that up until today, I didn't realize that we just haven;t gotten any real snow yet to warrant putting the plow on my grizzly. So that got me thinking, what are the latest plows out there and what ATV plows are the best? I've got 2 snow plows for my grizzly, a quadboss pile driver atv plow set up and a snowsport ATV plow. They are both a bit dated now and I tend to stick with the snowsport due to ease of use and I just like it so much. So if you have a plow on your ATV, please let us know what it is and post a picture with your atv/plow would be awesome. Would also like to know what you like and dislike about it.
This is back a while when I did a write up on these 2 plows.... in 2009 I got the snowsport and in 2012 I got the quadboss.

I have a Sportsman 450 HO and almost killed my self when loading it on my truck with ramps.  It rolled off the top of the ramps and tailgate and nearly landed on me.  I now want to winch the ATV in to the truck.  My question is are the front side bed tiedowns in my 2011 RAM strong enough to winch to without distorting the hooks or sides of the bed?
