i have been having problems with my 400ex. the electric start used to work great and never had a problem but throughout the span of about a month it started to dwindle down each day and now it doesnt even work. i can roll start it and it runs great but if i turn on the lights it seems to have no power and bogs down when i hit the throttle. i just put a new battery in it today hoping it would fix the problem but it didnt change anything. i dont know where to go from there so hopefully someone knows more than i do and can help me fix my issue. any input will help. Thanks!

once i have it running if i hit the starter button you can hear the starter turning. would you still recommend that?

If you have the engine running and then press the starter button and hear the starter motor turning that would indicate to me the starter is probably bad because with the engine running the starter is not under a load. If this is the case when you try to use the starter and apply the load of turning the engine over a bad or dragging starter motor cant handle the actual load being applied to it and it would quickly drain your battery down. In most cases a dragging starter is an indication that either it has been overheated and or the bearings are worn out allowing the armature to drag inside the case and bad brushes can also cause the starter not to handle a load because the proper connections are not present. Hope This Helps!

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

Hi my name is Greg and I just acquired a free 2000 yamaha kodiac 400 4x4 with the ultramatic transmission that does not run. I plan to get it going and use it around my property

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.
