1996 Suzui King Quad - RPM Not Backing Down Once Throttled

I cleaned the carb out and set pilot to factory settings. idles fine but when I throttle the engine up the rpms do not back down very fast. does this mean I am running too lean? the cable does not appear to be sticking as I still have the side still off and can watch the cable.

any help is appreciated.

The slide on the needle might be sticking. I know on my quad I enlarge the slide hole slightly and clip a few coils off the spring. If you had it working well before I would skip this step and just make sure that the needle and spring is seated correctly.

Check the choke circuit and look for possible vacuum leaks. It could be a bad fuel shutoff valve as well, even a dry rotted intake boot can cause what you are describing. I'd give it a ver thorough inspection.

well I had time to check it out. found exhaust valve almost .025 previous owner rebuilt engine. 2 months ago (this is a quad new to me) starts fine cold but harder to start warm so I am going to check the valves again
