My motor is coming back to me in pieces and I have to find another builder. I dont know what happened over there and Im not him but it was just one excuse after another as to why my motor wasnt built. I was warned about his people skills and went there anyway. Lesson learned.

either way dont matter to me I have em too. Would I rather have my motor together back from you and running? yes. Is talking about it going to get my motor built...I dont think at this point. You think your in the right and I think Im in the right.

It's not a matter of either of us being right or wrong, you want your motor now and I am unable to do it in your time frame due to having health problems and having to close the business for over two weeks.Your lack of understanding that I put my health before my business didn't set well with me,but it is what it is.

I'm OK with sending it back, you said that's what you wanted too, so what's the point of this? I didn't charge you a dime for any labor, between parts and shipping it back to you with "insurance" you are good to go.

I think I did a good job of answering every question you had,got back to you in a timley manner keeping you up todate, and right before VFJ's ride you said don't worry about it for the ride you had a Grizzly. Next thing I know your are making demands and going off on a rant.I read a few of your post and that looks like it's nothing new,but the bottom line is your motor will ship as you said and will be there early next week.

Yes my demand was I needed an answer on when the motor would be completed and why has it taken so long. You received my motor on March 14th as per UPS then on March 20th you said the motor was apart. Then it was the machine shop taking too long on the crank. Then it was other motors in front of mine. Then it was you went into the hopsital in April for a week then was out and said you got it under control. Then you said you dont know when you would be doing motors again and shut down the business for two weeks. What am I supposed to think? you could be using the motor as a door stop for all I know.

Plus the Grizzly was borrowed from another rider. Its not mine.

Mario- Sorry to hear you havent had that great of an experience with this motor. Stuff comes up, it happens.

Mickey- Sorry to hear about your health issues. You've seemed to do what you can to explain. Good luck.

Everyone- Just because there has been a problem here, doesn't mean Mickey does crappy business and the motors he has/is building/built aren't any good. He has a great reputation, and is known to build some beastly motors. This is how it goes in the modding world! It's not like someone can receive, tear down, inspect, machine, and put it together within the snap of a finger. Wanna play, gotta pay!!!

-- so your saying if I paid more i would of gotten it done faster?? Believe me Ive dealt with enough back orders, machine shop and water jet shop delays, shipping delays, retrofit kits for 30-40 year old cranes that never fit. Even other welding companies. I know its not easy to say " I dont know". Ive done it to the VP at Verizon. Ive also know the repercussions of saying that to a customer. I know what he is up against as a business. I dont know what he is up against personally. That is none of my business.

At this point the motor is coming back to me. I said I wanted it back and he is shipping it back on tuesday. What ill get i dont know but ill have it back and then i can do what needs to be done on my time.

There you have it case closed

Mickey, It sucks about the health issues, but when you are running a business and something goes wrong you need to make arrangements to get the work done. If you can't do the work yourself you need to get it outsourced or bring in someone who can until you can get back to work yourself.

Your health is important, but when it comes to running a business, you need to meet customers needs. The business that can do that is the one that survives.

Hi Jerry, this Lisa Dunlap Mickey's wife.

Almost two weeks ago now Mickey shut his phones down to work longer hours to get all the orders and small jobs done so he could get your bike done. Well everything went well until that weekend when he got up and felt totally exhausted,he slept all weekend thinking he just over worked him self. By Wednesday I finally got him to go to the emergency room. He has had this happen before but never did a blood test while he was still feeling bad. They had never found out what it was, but now we know he has fatty liver disease. We now know what to do,but we don't know how long it's going to be before he even starts answering phones, let along gets working again. He will call you when he can and let you know more then.

Lisa Dunlap

I deleted his info off the e-mails but I believe she got back to everyone waiting for stuff the best she could.

I got this 400ex motor apart the day I got back in on the Monday when I found out where it was. I was doing everything I could until I got sick to keep up on everything.

I still have the two jobs to get done that were before this 400ex and I don't know when I will be able to.

I been doing this for 30 years and there are some people you just can't please,so this is how we got here and I'm happy with him getting his motor back so he can get it done.

There is a big trail run that V-Force John is setting up on his property in Barnesville PA. I would like to go with my 400EX but I don't want to put any pressure on you. If its not possible DON'T worry about it. I have a Yammy Grizzly 4x4 to take there.

I wish I could tell you when I will be up and going again building motors, but I'm just now answering phones again. I shut the business down for 2 weeks and now I'm just trying to fill the orders my wife took in in e-mails.

Sorry about the wait, with this nice weather and everything I'm sure you are going nuts,I know I am because I want to work on my 1100cc motor I'm building and I can't do that until my customers stuff is done.

Since that isn't good enough for you I will box up your motor as it is Tuesday and send it back,I won't charge you any more so you can get some one else to do it.

You not understanding isn't from a lack of both my wife and I telling you. We have kept you in the loop step by step, but you seem to be a bit of a hot head and with a total lack of respect. You can't push me to do something I can't do,so the best thing is to get you the motor back to you so you can get some that can do it for you quicker. Good luck on the rest of your project, your work order with all the prices will be in the box.

So I was wrong about my wife getting back to,it was all from me.I did the best I could to talk to you about it but it didn't seam to matter to you.

Your right I shouldnt care. AGAIN... Your Health Problems not mine. You even said that you dont know when your going back to building engines. Does that mean 2 weeks or does that mean 2 years. What am I supposed to say? Your emails gave me little assurance that you were going to even complete my motor

As for caring and holding your hand ... I am just a customer to you and you are the engine builder to me. I didnt ask you to do me a favor and build me motor as friends. I paid you to build me a motor and you failed to do so as my motor is still in pieces 10 almost 11 weeks in. I didnt pay for excuses i paid for a 500cc running motor. Maybe I deal with this on a daily basis and grown thick skin. Do I get hot headed.. Yes.. I am afterall a NYer. All I wanted was a motor built without drama and excuses. I never tried to chew the prices down but expected to get what I paid for. I dont know how much more money the engines would make Mickey before mine but i paid what was required.

That is my stance on this situation and opinion. Who is right im not sure nor do I care. If Mickey wants to respond thats fine, I am done venting.

I found another builder who is familiar with Honda motors. Just for the record I told her nothing of what happened. All that was said was it was an incomplete 400ex motor with 4 stroke tech parts. When I receive it she will evaluate it and price it... Yay

Its not complete but almost there lol. They were 3 weeks behind on work when I dropped off the motor of at Diggin Racing Inc. He did alot of test fitting to see if all rotated correctly and fit correctly. The crank assembly was machined as was the case but not sure. The oil cooler mod was missing a couple of pieces.

I do thank Amelia and Chris for keeping me up to date as to what is going on. Also I can stop by whenever I want. Its 10 min from me. The shop is pretty cool where the quads are all stored on shelves like at Home Depot (space is a premium on Long Island)

What! It's been two months! It's a two day job. Get over there and tell them in your best NY hot headed way you bought a pass to go riding and this is not exceptable! LOL

The oil cooler isn't missing any parts,we just put JB weld in it where you plug off the hole to re-rought the oil. We can't get the little ball bearing we JB welded in before anymore and it's no big deal either way. We had just got a new computer and we can't use the old program that we made the directions off of so the directions didn't have that changed on them, but I should have wrote that on the sheet. It took me all day just to get the motor boxed up the way I was feeling back then and I forgot that detail. Sorry.

Posted

I found the cooler instructions online. The ball bearing was missing and so was the barb fittings so no big deal. I substituted the bearing for a set screw. I was warned that he never put together a 500 kit. I told him to be cautious with it and triple check everything as I was unsure what you did or didnt do. He does mostly the 440 kits. They arent a big shop nor the best. But from what Ive heard and from how they handle their business I feel quite comfortable with my motor there.

I am quite unsure why you even give a sh** as to who, what, where, when about my motor. I assume you are feeling better and back to your arrogant ways

Since its your kit and if was just a two day job you should of had it together, running and back to me in April. So I guess its not that simple...

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I finally got around to working on the TRX, this has been an ongoing problem with this machine. This is a machine that we keep on my Fathers property, i dont see it that often, my brother haad it professionally repaired last year and year before same problem, the new starter gears and bypass gears last about a year and the machine is not used that often, he said he was done with it , so i thought i should go take a look. Sure enough the gears were all malled again.

IMG_4910.mov   There is some slack in there but most is taken up by the gear cover,if anyone with history with these machines has had the same problem, let me know your findings. Where i am now im looking for finding replacement honda gears on Ebay and try those. I suspect the original was replaced with aftermarket gears years ago and they just worse quality as the years go by.

I get it, turn counterclockwise will decrease, turn clockwise will increase.  My question is what exactly am i increasing or decreasing? Is it clutch pressure? In many videos i've seen it's always "turn counterclockwise" until you feel resistance then back off. Why is it always to decrease?
I'm just curious as to what exactly is going on when i turn that screw right or left. And, since there's no manual clutch to engage or disengage, what is going on inside?
Reason why i'm asking is while going down a hill in 1st gear, it appears to pops out of gear, but no neutral light, and if i stop, it's in 1st gear still. BUT, (always a but) if the engine is warmed up, it stays in 1st gear. The hill is too steep to use any other gear, so 1st with the brakes is the only way to go down.
