2002 Honda 400ex - Loose Axle & Disc ~ Locknut

ok guys im havin a problem here.... ive heard tht after u loosen up a stock axle nut it tends to come loose all the time after tht...... well i noticed tht my axle is movin an awful lot and we i ride i hear a rattling sound ..... i looked at it and got to feelin around and the brake disc moves around and the threads the axle nut is on move to....... is this because my axle nut is loose and needs tightened or wat?????

you need lock nuts to solve the problem. if you keep tightening them every ride you will crush the bearing.

so you are saying tht i need to replace the axle nut????

you can keep tightening it, but it will eventually come loose again and damages the bearing when you re tighten all the time.

yup, but it locks the first one into place and keeps it from backing out.

hope it don't add anymore weight to you bike for the 'you know what' tomorrow ....

I use lock tight on the lock nut collar then go getto and put two wraps of electrical tape. never had my axle loosen up. you need to torque the locks to proper spec for the locks to work.

ohh i see thanks man... so as long as they r at proper specs they shouldnt loosen up again

yes and dont forget the blue loctite. You have to use it according to the Honda service manual
