Ok so i am new to this forum and of course like all forums I join its because I need advice! I have a 400l Sport that I rebuilt a couple years back and have not done anything else to it. Now we have not rode it much either but getting out this spring it is not running very smooth. Since it was bored 40 over should have rejetted the carb? (I think it needs more fuel but I could be wrong) I have not ever changed the reed valve and am going to just dont know if there are different sizes or stock will still work just might replace the ol thing. I have many questions I can get to later but I enjoy this forums thanks for all inqueries!

Hi, I am a Polaris guy so I like your choice of quad. I don't know a whole bunch of how to fix them. I do my own work, but have to research the manual and previous posts on here all the time to help me through. I do learn a lot from reading about how others fix their problems so I will be watching to see what you end up doing to your quad to get it going.

If you have not run it for a while than I would clean the carburator to make sure it is not dirty. You could try and raise the needle valve one notch to see if there is a differance but tha is when you open te throttle.

ok so she started right up out in the barn rode it up to the house and it was cutting out and running rough but was cold to. It died as I was pulling into position and wouldnt start back up ran the battery died. So I stuck it on the charger while I cleaned the carb replaced plug and installed new pull rope (didnt matter because the recoil spring is shot). Put everything back together and installed battery, nothing but a soleniod click. So I hooked up the charger and turned it to start (200 amp) just clicks. I tried everything I knew to do and then with the pull rope still shot I gave up for the day. But just to prove to me it was not the battery I stuck it in the kids quad and worked fine. The solenoid I just replaced about a month ago! but couldnt cross it either

My quess is your battery is not putting out 12 volts or more. With a muiltimeter and switched on volts you can check your battery red probe on positive black probe negative Tun ignition switch on and check soleniod with red probe with black probe on negative post of battery, Go to post on starter with red probe and check. Make sure the starter button is pushed in when checking at starter.

jumping the gun here but what is a good way to get to the starter behind the transmission belt housing I was trying to check that conection yesterday and couldnt get to I am going to go try now will give update, and wouldnt the test on the soleniod side give same results?

battery reads 12.43, and power to starter reads 11.2 when hitting the start button accesorie or whatever it is the side stud on solenoid will read 9.2 when start button is pressed just clicks. I did not hook up the big battery charger and throw it to start and see what it reads then cause since it still clicks then I didnt figure there was a difference

Sounds like the solenoid. Take the starter end of the cable off the solenoid and hold it on the battery side of the solenoid . Make sure you have a good connection and the starter should turn over.Check the ends of the starter and battery cables no frays or corrosition.

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.

Hello all! I’m new to the 4 wheeler world, but not new to the mechanic world. I was a diesel mechanic for many years and last year got into jet skis. I just bought a 1987 Yamaha moto 4 350 and now learning the ins and outs of 2 stroke engines. Looking forward to learning all the things.
