I have a 2000 polaris xplorer 250cc 2 stroke 4x4 it wont start. The plug fires and it sounds like its going to run but wont ever start. also the battery is dead so i have to use the pull start. Someone told me to clean the carb and replace it maybe but i dont wanna waste the money on it and it not work..... is it worth messing with the carb?? What other things could i try? . The atv has sat since summer. my granddad just gave it to me yesterday and i really wanna get it fixed. Thanks.

How fresh is the gas? Try putting in some fresh gas and give it a shot of starting fluid to see if it will start on that. My electric start is shot so I use pullstart all the time. If it sits for any more than a week I have to pull a couple times to get it going. Also, can you feel the compression when you are pulling? You should be able to feel good resistance. If the compression is low it won't start. Just a couple quick things to try.

My cousin has had this 4wheeler since i posted this and he has been on vacation and he just got back today and i ran over to his house before my meeting at the fire Dept. and i was just looking at it and there was a leaf in the tank and the air filter is missing. Im gonna buy a new filter and clean the tank tomorrow. I dont think im gonna clean the carb because i cant get to it. im hoping it will run after i try those few things!

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks
