I have a 250 timberwolf 2wd that I have beat to death on the farm. It has been great until now. Carb trouble. I cleaned the carb and set it but it will not idle and it takes forever for it to hit and start running. It has always fired right off. stumped. I also have a big bear 400 that I worked off in trade. They say it died on them and they supposedly took it to a guy that says the oil pump quit and the motor is trashed. It had brand new tires on it and I think he thought he could snow them out of the machine. Machine has never left the farm and never been ridden by anyone under 50 I don't think. Any ideas?

I raced 350X and 250R for years successfully and my 250 big red has still never failed me. These Yamaha 4 strokes are a bit of a mystery to me still.

Hello All. I just joined yesterday. Great site!

I have been riding for much of my life, but never before had a three wheeler. I found this one in an old barn. Some old guy owned it and when he passed his son was tasked with getting rid of some things so I picked it up for $100.00. Didnt know if it even ran, but the engine turned over with a pull so I took a chance. After emptying and cleaning the gas tank and changing the oil, it actually started after several pulls! I am now in the process of repairing or replacing old frozen up parts like the brakes and several cables. So far it runs good and Ive driven it through all the gears with no problems. Seems like a good buy so far.

Ok, enough about the ATC, this is supposed to be about me. :cute: Im a relatively old man and Ive been working on engines, cars, bikes, etc. pretty much since I was able to pick up a wrench. I really enjoy diagnosing and solving mechanical issues. Presently I work in an engine assembly plant in Dundee, Michigan. I am a supplier quality resident engineer there. Ive been married for 34 years and have 3 sons, who are all grown and moved away. Ok, how am I doing so far?

I am looking forward to communicating with other riders on this forum.

Hello all.

I'm new to quad ownership and am 53 years old. I'm pretty much a tinkerer of many things mechanical. My background is; I was raised in a Christian home and am a practicing Christian myself. I've been married to the same woman or almost 30 years and raised 3 children. We now are foster parents with a big house and plenty of love to give to kids. I'm an electrician by trade and a pretty good one if I can say. Also a decent mechanic.

I bought my first quad a couple of months ago from my nephew.

Model year 2000 Polaris 500 Sportsman RSE.

It didn't run good for him and he didn't want to mess with it. He knowing that uncle Joe was the mechanic of the family could probably do more with it than anyone else so he gave me a decent price. Since I've brought it home I've fixed several small things but now I'm into fixing why it just won't run great. I want it to run great like I've always heard these machines can do.

I won't lie. I joined this group just so I could reap the benefits of shared knowledge. Your knowledge. In the process I promise to give any that I may have also.

I downloaded a service manual, joined this group and another forum, and have been talking to other owners here at work.

I'll ask my questions in the forum where applicable.

Thanks for your website and group.

Thanks for posting. This applies to all existing members also. If we could get everyone to update their locations that would be great! :D

Hi everyone. I'm from Mobile, Al. Its hot as all get out down here. I've owned numerous ATV's in my time but the only vehicle I own at the moment is an :

03' Yamaha 350 Warrior

No mods yet, bone stock and tired as hell. But I am persistently molding it into a play toy to be proud of. I never had a warrior although the "Tank" of the late 90's was always one I wanted to try so here goes. I hope to update with pics as I progress. Thanks for having me and providing this great resource

Newbie here. Just picked up a ‘98 Kawasaki Bayou 220.  Needs a little work so I’m searching the forums for tips and tricks.

Welcome @Bill Moore, bayou 220s are tough ATVs and can keep up in the trails with the best of them. Had some friends that all had them at one time, great ATVs for the price.

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.

Hello all! I’m new to the 4 wheeler world, but not new to the mechanic world. I was a diesel mechanic for many years and last year got into jet skis. I just bought a 1987 Yamaha moto 4 350 and now learning the ins and outs of 2 stroke engines. Looking forward to learning all the things.

First post here need some help/advice. I bought a 2001 king quad 300, vin number JSAAK43A212111871. I have been trying to do some basic maintenance as it runs but doesn't idle all that well . I want to take out and clean/repair the  carb but when looking for parts it ask for model X Y K1 K2. How do I know which model I have? I have tried some vin decoders but they haven't told me. If anyone could recommend a carb rebuild kit for my quad Id appreciate it. Also any tips on tracking down an owners manual?
