i have a 2010 honda rancher trx420tm (footshift 2wd). i have on a couple of occasions accidentally shifted up without lifting off the throttle (known as a flatshift, or no-lift shift). i assume this is bad for it, but can't find any information thats says either, "yes, its fine" or "no, never do that".

it doesn't make any unusual noises, or do anything that would suggest improper operation (no sudden jerking motions, no hard shifting at other times).

any ideas?

it definately is quicker than shifting normally, just hoping this won't cause anything to break.

I have an 86 Yam moto4 200 with the semi auto. When I first let people ride it they never let go of the throttle when shifting. I can say it till im blue in the face but its always the first day out someone does it. That being said, Inever had a problem with the shifter. It always engages properly.

i had two hondas that i shifted that way from new and never a problem... although i would not recommend downshifting that way

honestly, honda has made their bikes so bulletproof, that anyone can try and kill them .... and not succeed IMO

i usually blip the throttle on downshifts when approaching a turn, rev matching keeps it from trying to lock the rear tires. when downshifting to accelerate, i always lift off the throttle, downshift, then go wide open.

because the clutch dis-engages anytime you move the shift lever, it really shouldn't hurt it to flatshift. might cause the clutch to wear a little quicker, but i have no problem with having that adjusted a bit more often.

speed shifting can cause damage to cluthes and most of all damage to your clucth basket notch wear breaking of clutch basket ears if done repeatedly bent shifting forks it wont shift because clutches cant float/slide inside the basket.

I have to blip the throttle to downshift on both my Moto4s. They never liked to downshift easy. I dont know why, the 85 was bought used and the 86 was bought new. and both do it

I blip the throttle when I downshift my 400ex although I dont have to its sorta habit.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.

I recently bought a 87 TRX 250 not running of course, the owner had a brand new Key Switch on it.
I think it is the wrong one or wrong wire colors as the colors dont match up with wiring diagram i downloaded for it.
anyone have a pic of their ign switch wires where they connect with the wire colors for that model? I ended up leaving the black/w stripe and
green wire disconnected in order to hot wire it for other testing but would like to know as the colors dont match diagram.

I am new to this site. Now down to business, I have been given a Kawasaki 220, tires are trashed and it has been setting for a long time. Do I need a battery in it to find neutral? I know there is a neutral switch and if I shift down(7 times????)   then up one using the neutral switch I should be in Neutral. As you see I am in a learning curve here ......coments welcome.

Well while I was waiting for new parts for the choke, I decided to adjust the clutch. When I removed the lock nut, I found the guy I bought it from or someone else had stripped the threads on the adjustment rod. I couldn’t get the adjustment rod to turn without putting a pair of channel locks on the screw driver, this was telling me something was wrong. So now the rod pushes in and out and spins freely too freely. So guess I’ll have to take the clutch housing off to see what’s going on and replace the adjustment rod, it’s threads are beyond repair, and there is something going on with the adjustment rod. If there’s another way please let me know. The further I go the worse it gets. Thanks for any help.
