I just purchased a used z250 as a Christmass present for my son and it seems that it has some carb problems. Any help to get this figured out would be much appreciated. The vacum line was plugged and it would only run on prime when i got it. Seems the petcock needed to be replaced and this was the way to make it run without replacing it. This was done by a shop for the previous owner and I only learned of it after purchasing the quad and questioning the seller. A new petcock was installed and that's where I come in. The previous owner never had the job finished. So I pulled the carb cleaned everything, set the adjustment screw in the bowl to 3 turns out, reinstalled it and checked for vacum leaks. The bike will start right up and run pretty good but the problem is with the idle. When I use the idle adjustment screw to get the idle where it sounds good and then rev the bike up it hangs at a high idle before settling back down. The only way to get it to settle faster is to lower the idle adjust ment screw, but then the idle is too low. I have tried 3 turns out on the screw in the carb ( not the idle), 4 turns out, and now 5 turns out. At 5 turnsout and fiddling with the idle screw, I can get a decent idle and she will hang very slightly then come down. The hanging occurs when you rev it up and keep it up for a few seconds Not if you are snapping the throttle. Can someone help me out with this? Is the idle hanging normal? I have a 80 honda dirt bike for my son and ride a bike myself and this is not something I can say I have heard before. Thanks for any help in advance.

I didn't check the jet size. What should it be or rather what is the stock size? I'll take it off again today and check. I guess I should back it down to three turns if 5 is way too much. I'll look for a shop manual today also.

There was a 138 main jet and 20 pilot jet. After a little more searching it looks like it was jetted to run with a modified box and the slip on. I found this out after installing a stock rebuild kit. So now I am at a 125-126 ( that's what was printed on the main) and the 20 pilot. The bike has a yoshimura slip on and I guess I'm going to be too lean the way it is now. I orderd a Dynojet kit which is what I should have done first. I am not looking for this bike to have every last drop of power just yet. It is my sons first quad of his own and it is much bigger than what he is used too. I'm still a litle confused about the "hanging idle" as the bike was running very rich and so far what I have read says that too lean was the culprit.

Can you tell me what the third jet is for? I can't make out a number on it but in the schematic it as listed as a main jet( part number 17) with a note. The only thing is the schematic doesn't have the note. Also should I run it with the stock jet first and see what I have or is that a waste of time? I don't want it to be too lean. Thanks for the help so far.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.
