With all do respect, I have read these and I find them to be non-effective, I had to look over them to really understand the point, to me, these have no value. But all the best to you and your group.

It is all pretty much just about respect. It is easy sometimes on the trail to end up at someones property by accident, if said property is marked I turn around and head back. There have been times where there are no markings and I do not know I am on private grounds. In the area where I live and ride this happens a lot and land owners instead of just putting up signs will boobie trap their land. Land owners need to be educated on this subject also. I have come across everything from boards with nails hidden in puddles to fish hooks on line hanging in trees. Respect earns Respect.

Appreciate the support, and the constructive criticism. I did get a similar comment from another forum as well, and we will re-examine when we do another round.

Wow In Colorado We have tons of public land to ride on !!! In my 40+ years of riding I`ve never had a issue with a land owner But I have run into the 10% of asses that make it bad for us !! And MOST of them were kids 25 and under !!

The above article is not the first incident i've heard of, including Colorado... unfortunately.

Again, this is one of the reasons that ALL public land users need to be respectful of each other. Vengeful tactics like that do no good for anyone, and should not be tolerated by any of the outdoor communities.

I for one am glad to see the direction you are headed in. Hikers and Bikers also cause erosion and problems with land owners. We all need to work together to gain access to public lands and to respect those private land owners that grant us access, instead of pointing fingers at one another.

Try finding public land on Long Island, NY. Only a couple of MX tracks and im not paying $1000 - $1300 a year to ride on them. What does NY do with my and the thousands of other ATV registration money it collects?? NY sucks

Yea we are lucky to have tons of public land to ride on !! ( for now )

We have to on LI. My property taxes are 8000 a year with the star program. Thats for a piece of property 75 x 100 ft. My house is about 2000 sq ft so its nothing. We get sh*tty roads and tons of traffic. Plus over priced tolls to get off this place.

On adifferent note. I was pissed off when i noticed how much garbage is dumped on RAC property. Even where you park your tow vehicles. Im not talking about the construction waste, i mean the hundreds of empty 4stroke engine oil bottles beer bottles atv parts dirtbike parts bottles of 2 stroke oil gas cans etc so I know its the riders doing it. Doesnt anyone give a sh*t about the riding area?

Having respect for the places we as riders are allowed to ride should be #1. Keep it clean. Just like in our county the county built a free skate park for the skate boarders and a few ---- ---- paint on the ramps tear down parts of the fence an leave trash every where. They don't appreciate what has been built for them to enjoy for free. I also feel if a property owner has a problem of riders ending up on their property they should post private property not get a person hurt or killed. They should be jailed for setting boobie traps.

thats another reason why I dont ride there. most of the people are jerks, they think because they paid to ride there it is theirs and they can do what they want. when rac first started the program they said anyone with a paid permit that caught someone riding without one got their next permit free. there were a bunch of a**holes riding around with coolers of beer on the back of their quads bounty hunting. I dont work or play well with those kind of people so I just stick to myself.:aargh:

I'm sure you guys up north have the same as us in the south. They have a day that is picked out for groups that use trials or rivers and have a clean up day where they walk along the trial as a group picking up trash or what ever needs to be done. For the river they bring their rafts and paddle down collecting the trash. It seems to work out pretty good. We can't stop the butt heads but if others are willing to help take care of the places they tend to not close them down.

Star os a reduction in taxes. After you paid off 25% your mortgage you get a tax break. Normal taxes are about 9200 a year

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?

I bought a 1996 Sportsman 500 4x4 about a month ago, and I love it. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing a few problems with the high-range gear. The first problem is that the gear selector will intermittently pop out of high and into neutral. This problem will sometimes occur when starting from a stop and sometimes will also occur while at cruising speed. The last time this happened I stopped and put it back into gear, however, as soon as I tried to throttle the machine would die. I turned it on again with no problems put it back into high and it died again. Once again I turned it on with no problems put it into low instead and it worked fine with no problem. I drove in low down the road slowly for a little and then shifted back into high with no issues.
I plan on working on it this weekend and would just like some opinions or feedback from anyone who may have experienced these problems before. I'm very mechanically inclined but im unsure of exactly where to start as this is the first Polaris ATV that I've owned. Any feedback is appreciated and thanks in advance

Hi all - I recently had a shop fix this quad and it hasn't been right since. The jug was resealed as it was leaking, the rings were replaced, and the valve stem seals replaced. Shop said the cylinder walls were great so nothing was done there. The motor still smokes, heavily on startup and all but quits once warmed up. Enough that I can live with it if I can fix what I came to ask about. I mentioned this work because since I've gotten it back it seems like it has power but tops out at a much slower speed than before. It's old so I don't have a speedo but I pulled out my phone at it tops out at 25 mph. I know before the work, I was getting up to 45+ mph... It's so bad, my 10 year old daughter is pulling away and straight leaving me in the dust with her governed Polaris 90.
Given the work done, what are some thing I could be the cause of such a drastic difference? I immediately thought timing but the marks appear to match up with a youtube video I found... no idea if it's correct though. It sat in another shop for 2 months and they gave me an $800 quote just for the starter... it pull starts fine.
FYI: I would take it back to the original shop to figure out but I had some issues that make them a no-go for me.

So.. It has now become cranky about changing from "drive" to "reverse". Sometimes it's seamless as it's always been, other times it just goes "click, click....click, click " when going from reverse to forward, or from forward to reverse..  Then it gives up and just stops at neutral.  Only thing that seems to help is to give it a bit of a bump / wiggle with my own weight. Any ideas as to what to check? It's low miules / hours .. Dealership maintained..

      Hey all!
I recently acquired an 02 big bear 400 this past summer, carb on it was shot to sh** (pics attached) so my father recommended I just buy a new one off amazon. I purchased the first one that came up as compatible and once it came in, I bolted it in and it fired right up with no noticeable issues. Once I got to the trails with it I realized that on any un-level ground, there's little power output. I checked with 3 different local shops and they all refused to work on tuning up off brand carbs because of how terrible they are. One shop had a motorcycle in with an aftermarket carb and the mechanic said that that would be me if I brought my big bear in. Whoever owned the motorcycle and needed their aftermarket carb tuned up had racked up the bill to nearly $1500. Needless to say he made it clearly obvious that putting any amount of money into an aftermarket carb is not worth it. Now that I've learned all of this, I'm wishing I didn't toss the old carb for a $30 amazon one. In light of this minor f-up does anybody have any recommendations for high quality carbs for my vehicle? I've also attached pictures of the old carb and its condition for your curiosity, although its current condition is likely 6 feet under in a landfill somewhere.

I found this one on EBAY that advertises as a genuine OEM part for a fraction of the $650 that they're normally worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
