Hello

This is my first time in here so here it goes. I have a a problem with my Quad Master 500. It started about 6-8 months ago. It starts up great and idles fine. When I put it in gear it runs great but all of a sudden it starts to jerk and back fire. When I put it in neutral I give it throttle it will rev and die down. It wont shut off it just surges up and down. It will do this for about 20 min. or so. I will shut it off then start it up then it will work fine for along time. Then all of a sudden it will start to jerk and back fire. I put new plug, air filter and fuel cleaner but it still acts up. This has has been a great bike and a good work horse at the cabin. Does anyone please have an thought what it might be or lead me in the right direction. I think it could be in the carb. but not shure. Thank you

Could be a fuel starvation problem, or an intake air leak. Check the machine for air leaks by spraying WD 40 or carb cleaner around the intake area, if you hear any changes in the idle, you are sucking the stuff in and probably have an air leak there. You also may want to check the fuel valve and look inside the carb for deposits, it may need a good cleaning. Does the fuel valve have off-on-res settings, or on-res-prime settings? If there is a "prime" setting, and no "off" setting, you have a vacuum operated fuel valve, this could also be your problem. If this is the case, try running the machine with the valve in the "prime" position. Check the vacuum line that runs to the valve, make sure it is not leaking.

I keep the 4wheeler at my cabin so when I get upthere next weekend I will surely check that out. I want to check for dirt in the gas also. Thank you so much for the reply.

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good.
I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.
I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.

Hello all! I’m new to the 4 wheeler world, but not new to the mechanic world. I was a diesel mechanic for many years and last year got into jet skis. I just bought a 1987 Yamaha moto 4 350 and now learning the ins and outs of 2 stroke engines. Looking forward to learning all the things.
