Sorry if this has already been posted, but i read in DirtWheels magazine(awesome mag) that 450r shocks fit on a 400ex! Wondering if i need any modifications in order to do so? Also, it would make a noticeable difference right? Thanks for any imput

I think it would make a huge difference! I dont know if you need to mod anything to do it though, but lots of people have done it so someone else should be able to tell you that.

Some people find the 450R shocks to be a bit stiff and tall for the 400ex or 250R. But for a heavier rider this can be a good thing. I think they would work quite well with extended a-arms since the 450R is a bit wider than a 400ex. Overall, I believe they would be a good step up from stock, and much cheaper than aftermarket. I use a set of KFX 450R shocks on my 250R with +2 a-arms, and I think they work great.

I been thinking of doing this same thing on mine, the stock 400ex shocks are to dang rough

Yep, "pogo stick shocks" as most people call them. At least with the 450r shocks you get some adjustments to make it work better for how you ride.

I did not have to shave the 450 shocks when I mounted them,I just took a screw driver and hammer and knocked off the nut welded to the frame that holds the front plastics above the shock. Then used a smaller carriage bolt upside down and bolted everything right up. The shocks made a big difference.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.

So I’ve got a 2000 Honda 400ex absolutely love it!! I’ve had it for about a month, I ride with bruteforce 750’s, outlander 850’s and 1000 sxs’s and I was thinking of getting a trx450r carb and a full hmf exhaust. And probably doing the air box mod too, how much power would this give my 400? Just a little different or a big difference? Cuz if it’s not much of a different I’ll just stick with my dg slip on..... thanks!

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.
