This is my first thread i hope someone can help...I was taking the bike for a ride then all of a sudden it just died on me.I tried to start it back up and it was making a loud clunking noise from the engine but would not start.Got it home and took out the spark plug and put a screw driver in the plug hole to see if the screw driver would move when i pull the pull cord very easyly and it did.So I thought that it would be the piston rings that are gone.Is there anything else that it could be any info would be greatly apprecieated..Thanks..

Welcome to the forums!

Did you check the drive belt? Maybe it snapped.

EDIT: I just read it again and you mentioned that it will not start. Did you actually do a compression test with a tester?

What gives you the idea that there is no compression? I would start by taking the vavle cover off and checking the valve train, make sure the vavles are properly adjusted, cams are still bolted down and the timing chain is still tight. If you find nothing wrong there, drain the oil and check fore metal debris. If you find chunks in the oil, then I would just keep tearing the motor apart until you find the problem. If not, then I would at least do an actual compression test before taking the rest of the motor down. You might try removing the side covers on either side of the crankcase and check the clutch and flywheel/magneto assemblies for signs of damage that could be causing the clunking noise before taking the head off.

Thanks for the replies AJMBOY and Dirtdemon,I did not do a actual compression test but what i did is I took the spark plug out and put my finger over the hole and i thought that it would have some sort of suction when I gave the pull cord a tug but there was nothing. We thought about the drive chain but then we thought that I would start anyways if the drive chain was broke. It was bad wheather here for a couple of days with as major snow storm so I will try and take the the crank case covers off and see if it is the drive chain. Thanks again for the info i will post again if anything that you guys have told me to do.Once again thanks for the info this is a great site for help keep it up..

There should be suction, then a burst of pressure that should blow your finger off the hole. The lack of compression could be anything from a broken timing chain to a bent or broken valve, a hole in the piston, or completely blown rings, I could go on and on. My advice stands, check the valve train first, it is the easiest thing to get to, just remove the valve cover. Good luck, hopefully the problem is something simple.

So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good.
I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.
I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.
