Hello my son has a Predator 90 that we just purchased the Daytime Running Lights Kit for. It is Polaris's own kit so this is not an aftermarket kit. I installed the kit and the wiring harness which is just a jumper that plugs into the stator wires and goes directly to the lights. The issue I am having is the lights are not getting bright at all. When I take the bulbs out and hook them directly to the battery the are fine but when I but them back in to the socket they go as dim as a lighter flame and that is not an exaggeration. I was told by a dealership that the stator on the 03 predator 90 should put out 70 watts and this kit has only two 5 watt bulbs so I am not over powering the stator. is it safe to assume that I have a ground issue? If not what are some things I should try to get these day time running lights to work properly? Oh I also for got an important issue. Sometimes the quad will not start if both bulbs are in the sockets. If I take one out it starts and while it running if I try to put the other bulb back in the machine dies like I pushed the kill switch.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time in advance.

yes its wired correctly. Its just has two plugs that plug in between the stator plug like the directions said. I got the lights from Power Sports and Marine in Minnesota. I got the part number directly from Polaris. I was unable to find any PDF online also to double check but after going through all of the options on the quad there are only two plugs that would work with the harness that came with the lights. Polaris said its a plug and play installation when I asked for the part number but there 800 number was unable to help me with the issue I am having.

well I got it fixed. I was a bad ground behind the stator. They work perfectly now.

My next question is does anyone know the exact wattage out put on these models as I have 2 12watt bulbs in there but would love to bump it up as much as I can.

Thanks again

If Polaris says it is 70 watts then it is probably 70 watts. I would not go any higher than that, 2 - 12 watt bulbs is drawing 24 watts, which is over 1/3 of the total stator output. If you want to go brighter, I would contact Polaris, or an authourized repair tech and ask them what the maximum draw you can put on it is. If you want more light, you may have to get an aftermarket stator, Ricky Stator makes an excellent product at an affordable price.

Dirt Demon you are exactly correct. I was hooking it up between the stator and the CDI and not between the voltage regulator and the stator. As I did not discover the other connector until I pulled all of the plastics off and started tracing wires to look for a bad ground. In the middle of doing this I also found a loose connection on the stator so it was not a complete wast of time. All is good and working perfect. Now all we have to do is wait for it to get cold again and night time to see how good they work. I was told that if I stay less that 80% of the total output that I should be ok. But I was told by one person that it is 70 watts and read else where that it is only 32 watts. None of the dealerships will help me out as all of them just want me to bring in the quad so they can charge $85 an hour and break me.

I see you read my response before I changed it having noticed that you had posted that you fixed it while I was away and hadn't finnished my response. I too have read through some other forums and read mixed results. I would stick with what you got untill you run into a problem or can get some better info. At $85 per hour, you would be better off spending $125 on a higher output unit from Ricky Stator. Come to think of it, you may just want to call them for info, they will probably be able to tell you what your factory stator puts out. It is there business to know the needs of the machines they are making aftermarket products for.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.

If anyone is having issues with the Mikuni VM24SS carb, I thought I would post what issues I had and how I resolved them.
Acquired a 93 Bayou 220 that had sat for over 4 years.
The carb was extremely corroded and pitted and full of leftover fuel.
Cleaned carb and bowl and was able to get the engine to start.
Within 30 seconds exhaust would heat up and start to glow red hot.
Removed carb and recleaned everything, including a second overnight soak.
Needless to say, after removing the carb for the 5th time and my frustration to the limit I
realized that my attention had been to the carb body and not to the bowl.
There is a small brass rod on the bottom of the carb that goes down into the float bowl but is seperated from the main section. I had cleaned that area very well....I had thought.
***The corrosion had sealed off the channel that runs from the main bowl section to the small tube section on the side of the float bowl. No amount of carb cleaner was going to get it to budge. So i took a small nail and started to scrape away the corrosion and was eventually able to dislodge enought of the corrosion that carb cleaner would flow through that channel. ***
I thoroughly cleaned each side of the channel in the float bowl and reinstalled the carb and now the issue of it running lean is gone.
On a second note the fuel mixture screw was a nightmare to remove as the threads had been corroded and wouldnt let the screw come out. I used a little cutting oil and worked the mixture screw in and out until I was able to push past the corroded threads and completely remove the needle. After a couple passes with a tap to clean the threads it is like new again.
Hope this helps if you are having a lean running machine.
