Just stating to get into quads and starting out in a big way. My fiance, her brother, and I have started building these:

The frame is custom built by my future brother-in-law from the ground up to accomodate the Harley-Davidson Sportster engine. Currently we're using 883cc engines but we plan on building a 1200cc version with more race like suspension. We wanted to give it that Harley look so we put a 3.3 gallon tank on it and a Sportster seat...which actually works out well for off-roading surprisingly. The exhaust, a-arms, and various other little odds and ends are also completely custom made. We even mold the carbon fiber body panels.

We're going to take her out to the desert this weekend and have a little fun with her. Going to be a blast. I don't want to post a ton of pictures here so I'll just add a couple more of my favorites.

We even took it to a Harley Open House just to see what they thought of it. This guy seemed to like it:

I hope to get more pictures this weekend of it in action but we'll see if my photography skills are up to par. :)

MSRP starts at $10,990. Right now we are offering a free upgrade to the carbon fiber body panels (normally they come with black fiberglass). That price includes the polished swing arms, stock engine primary cover and cam/pulley cover, and black controls. Keep in mind that these are all custom built, one at a time. The frame is not an existing Harley or Quad frame that is then butchered up and welded back together. This frame is brand new and built by us specifically for this application. So are the front a-arms, steering, tie-rods, handle bars, and nerf bars.

Of course, because it is a custom build so we can do just about anything else at a cost. Custom paint on the tank, different controls, different grips, different tires and wheels, different powdercoating options on the frame (or chrome it if you really want to go nuts), different seats, upgrades shocks, ect. We could even build one like this with a 1200cc engine in it if the customer wanted it. We can do a 1250 with heads, cams, different programming in the ignition and roll out a 90+ hp quad.

The great thing about this engine in a quad is the amount of torque you have across the powerband. You don't have to do a lot of shifting to keep the engine in a "sweet spot". When you grap the throttle, you have power to move you. It's not revvy...5900-6500 is where these motors top out at depending on setup...but the transmission is geared so that you can really get this thing moving. We've had it up to 55 mph offroad and 80 mph on road and haven't got it out of fourth gear...it has five gears. :)

Really the sky's the limit and that's why we decided to go this route is because the cruiser community has so many different options out there all ready we felt we could take advantage of that to produce a quad that is highly customizable.

We plan on taking it back out this weekend for a little more fun in the sand and maybe get some video of it running.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
