I have a late 90's Bayou 300 I use for hunting rig here in Bavaria Germany(I am stationed at the US base here). It starts and runs fine(great in fact), I can take off ride for 10,20,30 minutes, then it will just die(time is not the factor). It will restart fine, run for a second and die again, and again, then it will be fine for 10 or 20 or 30 minutes. Temperture not the issue, warm weather or cold doesnt matter. elevation not the issue, hills or flat not the issue. I removed tank, completely cleaned(yes some dirt in bottom. replace inline filter, carb seems good. It still feels like it is starving for gas when this happens, not an ignition issue. Do I need to pull tank again? pull carb and clean again?

Thanks,

Jack in Grafenwohr Germany

Welcome to QUADCRAZY! Always glad to see people form overseas and especially our military!!!

Sounds like fuel starvation to me and possible an issue with your carb and float level or pin issue, where the bowl runs dry and does not fill up in time. Have you taken apart the carb?

I agree with Ajmboy, if it is a fuel issue, something hanging the float up seems really likely. There could be a tiny piece of debris catching the float plunger and keeping it from dropping, or it may just be a bit worn and sticking in the seat. I would start by taking the carb apart and do a good cleaning on EVERYTHING make sure to clean out all the jets, fuel passages and vent holes. Also, make sure every thing is bolted up tight when you put it back together, if you are sucking air in from anywhere, it can affect the fuel uptake in the carb and cause a lean condition too which is bad. If none of that seems to help, you may be looking at a possible ignition problem.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?
