Hey guys, selling my can-am rally. Was looking around on craigslist and found this. 2006 Honda Rancher 400 4x4 atv. Usually something that is a 4x4 would not be priced this low especially since it is a 2006. BUT when i read the information on it, it did have 1005 miles on it. So I'm on the fence about giving this atv a look. It kind of seems like one of those "to good to be true" things. But i dont know.

SO anyway my point to this is do you guys have info on these ranchers? How are they? Any problems that I should be looking for with these atvs. I know the usual things to look for when buying a used atv but hondas are a little different style from what I have dealt with before. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

On the 400 Rancher, check the oil , like for dirty oil. Honda auto tranny's do not like old or dirty oil. See how it shifts in auto and ESP mode. My personal opinion is the 400 AT Rancher is over rated. compared to the 350 Rancher. If you are looking for an auto Honda ,go with the 420 Rancher , 500 Ruby, or the Rincon 650/680 (trail rig only for the Rinny).

A buddy of mine has an '04 Rancher 350, that thing is as slow as they come, but tough. He has had it since it was new and ridden the crap out it. It has taken an extreme amount of abuse and it has a loose rear end now, but it was never made to go through the hell it has been put through. I am suprised the thing even works at all.

first off, a thousand miles isn't many miles. Yes the oil needs to be changed on a regular basis as Billy stated. The 400 engine is weak which is why Honda made the changes with the 420 engine, higher compression, larger valves and EFI. If you just want a good quad to ride and it hasn't been beat to death, it should be a very dependable atv.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a really Heavy Duty ATV cover. I have bought several and they do keep the water off somewhat, but they are very thin and do not contour with the shape very well and water pools up in the rack louvers. I think i may be looking for a heavy canvas one, if anyone has a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.

So we are almost a month into winter and I've been so busy working on my house that up until today, I didn't realize that we just haven;t gotten any real snow yet to warrant putting the plow on my grizzly. So that got me thinking, what are the latest plows out there and what ATV plows are the best? I've got 2 snow plows for my grizzly, a quadboss pile driver atv plow set up and a snowsport ATV plow. They are both a bit dated now and I tend to stick with the snowsport due to ease of use and I just like it so much. So if you have a plow on your ATV, please let us know what it is and post a picture with your atv/plow would be awesome. Would also like to know what you like and dislike about it.
This is back a while when I did a write up on these 2 plows.... in 2009 I got the snowsport and in 2012 I got the quadboss.
