I'm helping a friend out...i picked up a king quad 1995 and it's not getting any fuel to the Carb...it has good gas flow threw to the petcock but not going into the Carb....,i took the backing plates off the petcock and Fuel dumped out.....do i have a bad petcock or is there a fuel pump somewhere or filter?I don't have a manual but in the process of getting one...I'm trying to help a friend....the petcock is not letting fuel threw to the carb...Can anyone help? Thanks MUDDIE49

Is that petcock vacuum actuated? It could be a bad petcock. When you start the quad by turning over the engine a vacuum is created in the carb which is piped to the petcock via a rubber hose. This vacuum works on a diaphragm (located in the back of the petcock) to allow gas to flow.

Make usre you are getting vacuum.

Thanks AMj...your right it is vacuum controlled....and i think we have a clogged hose or bad fuel pump....we're going to tear it apart this weekend....I'll let you know what we find....MUDDIE49:aargh:

there is a fuel pump under the front left hand side on the front guard.

it is driven by the vacum from the motor.

most likely it is not broken! they have a good reputation.

with the 250 and 300 LTF kingquads made by suzuki, when ever you cannot get fuel to the carbi, just put the fuel tap on to prime, then blow in to the fuel cap vent hose (the one sticking out of the fuel cap)

once you clean the dirt off it, blow with your mouth for about 10 seconds with the same sort of pressure you would blow up a baloon.

while you are doing this... crank the bike over with the starter button (to activate the fuel pump)

this is what every motorcycle shop must do to the LTF 250/300 every time they get a new bike out of the crate and fuel it up for the first time.

The LTF seems to have a good pump as far as durability goes, but it is just a little weak when it comes to filling up the carbi when the bike is dry.

if you have any doubt about fuel getting to the carbi, pull off the fuel line (the hose that is going to the carbi with the metal spring protective cover) pull it off the carbi and see how much fuel comes out when you crank the bike over.

I say this because it is no good chasing a fuel pump problem if you only have a dirty carbi that needs cleaning!

Tell us how you go!

Another problem I have seen with vacuum powered fuel pumps is the wrong kind of hose is being used. Regular soft rubber fuel hoses can reduce the signal strength, a the proper hose is a flexible but somewhat stiff hose that will not collapse or expand under vacuum or pressure. But, I would start with what Profil said, there is no use looking past the carb untill you have ruled that out as a problem. A float that is stuck shut will not allow gas to enter the carb, nor will gummed up fuel passages.

Thanks for your responces...I did some tests today and found out the Fuel pump is bad,We have Vaccum going to the Fuel pump, but the outlet hose is not flowing threw to the Fuel shutoff valve...to the carb....so before we head out to buy a new F-pump...i'll try priming it.....thanks Fellers.....MUDDIE49:aargh:

Well....the pump is good....the quad is running , the problem was the quads been sitting so long,i had to prime the fuel system, its running....but the carb needs to be cleaned up....i'm going take the carb off and clean it out jets, pilots etc....replace what needs....otherwise my buddy's pretty happy so far...thanks for all your responces and i'm sure, i'll have more questions as this project goes on..Muddie49

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      I Crashed My Quad
Well the Way I Ride, some of you knew it was Inevitable.
      Below are Three Videos.

Third one Follows more of what happens after .

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this.
The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out.
      Thanks...

Bought 4 wheeler for kids. Used to run and soon as it was put in gear it died. I have put new carburater, new plug and battery. The neutral light won't come on. I replaced the solenoid, then the positive battery cable and today put new relay assembly on. Still no neutral light. Not getting any juice and I don't know why.
