I want to thank everyone for the winch advise and suggestions. I ended up with a Viper 3500lb. The instalation wasn't to bad considering I've never installed one before. The wires were all color coded and their web site was very helpfull. I mounted a toggle switch under the seat so a kid or a novice rider can't accidently engage the winch. The winch works great and has way more power than I'll ever need. Any more power and I think it would stretch the frame. The only negative issue, and it's very minor; is the steel cable is a little too long. I'll be cutting off about 5 or 6 feet because it tends to bind up in the spool when almost fully spooled unless it's spooled perfecty even. Again, this is no big deal, the winch works great.

Thanks again to everyone who took time to respond when I asked for help.

Ajmboy,

I paid $185.24 total from Moto Alliance web site. I called first to make sure it would fit and asked for the 5% discount. They were very helpfull and curtious. It arrived in about 4 or 5 days. I don't have any pictures, but it's snuggled away and still easy to get at for free spooling. It will hang my bike from a tree, and will pull trees out by the roots or break them off if I hook too high on them. It's already paid for itself twice pulling me out of muck holes in the swamp that were deeper than I thought. I'm very pleased with it.

Thanks for the update! I just checked out the motoalliance web site. Looks like they have some viper plows that are @ $400 with installation kit.

I know this is an old topic. However I felt I should give an update. First let me say, in no manner, shape, or form am I in any way connected to or affiliated with Viper. I just wanted to give some feedback to Quad Crazy members for all the good advise I've gotten here. The viper winch is STILL going strong. I can't count how many times it's saved this old guys butt. (I'm now 68 yrs old) . Also I'm glad I got a 3500lb I wouldn't get anything smaller.

I have a Sportsman 450 HO and almost killed my self when loading it on my truck with ramps.  It rolled off the top of the ramps and tailgate and nearly landed on me.  I now want to winch the ATV in to the truck.  My question is are the front side bed tiedowns in my 2011 RAM strong enough to winch to without distorting the hooks or sides of the bed?

Hello all! I’m new to the 4 wheeler world, but not new to the mechanic world. I was a diesel mechanic for many years and last year got into jet skis. I just bought a 1987 Yamaha moto 4 350 and now learning the ins and outs of 2 stroke engines. Looking forward to learning all the things.

Ok guys, I am a glutton for punishment! I picked up this 01 2wd Rancher because the plastics looked good on the marketplace. It has been sitting in the guys back yard for 10 years. The original engine blew and they swapped in an electric shift 4x4 engine. 😒The engine is locked up and was full of water. The wiring is hacked where they tried to get it to run and the rear end needs new swingarm bearings where they left it laying on the ground in the woods for 10 years. Has anyone here ever did the engine swap? First thing is to straighten out the wiring and get the engine free to see if I can get it to crank over. I have swingarm bearings ordered and a new ignition switch. So hopefully I can at least roll it around soon. 🤣

Hi. I just joined the community. I have a sheep farm and use a Polaris 500HO, Polaris 700efi and a JD Gator 825i for different jobs around the farm. I do all the repairs myself so I am sometimes needing some advice and maybe I can be of some help to others as well.
