Ok so i have a 2006 YFZ 450 high comp piston, hot cams, different gears, and i only ride sand, i have raced a few LTR's and beat them all, sometimes it just comes down to experience, Its hard to say which is better, if your comparing a 2009 YFZ and LTR i would go with the YFZ as a better bike not necessarily faster... LTR's are very fast and with a cherry bomb and exhast you should be able to beat most bikes even slightly modded ones, in the sand it can come down to little things, gearing, tires, lots of stuff so its hard to say whats fasater and i mean rider weight can also be big factor, i hope this helps or maybe i just confused you...lol well check out my crews riding video our youtube our channel is spartanracing43 you won't be dissapointed leave some feedback.

but what about the yfz extra valve wouldnt that give it equal accelaration with the ltr?...and im not sayin the yfz is the best it has flaws like the stock exahust is corkin the engin more then the other 450s and for some reason the bolts always snap off of not just the yfz but all sport yamahas 4 some reason

STOOPIDBOT!!!! not tryin 2 be a prick but in dirt wheels mag yfz top speed was 78.8mph with the fastest (even more then the ktm450xc!!! at 74mph) and the trx 450 with the slowest at 69.5mph but it accelerated one of the fastest of the start and had the most reliable engine with the best fit and confort

What is funny to me is that the Honda, although going through no significant changes since '06, actually got slower. In the August '07 issue sitting next to me on the shelf it has the Honda pegged at 72.9 mph. That alone is enough to make me suspect of what DW publishes.

........idk but i have found errors in dirt wheels like in one of the issues it said the yfz had 4 valves.....all i know is mine didnt have 4 sooo good point mabee there was a heavy rider in my issue or mabee tested in different terain where the tires dont hook up as good idk i guess its impossible to get an exact top speed

It could definately be that they put a 400lb rider on the Honda and a 160lb rider on everything else. You would think that you would put the same rider on each bike for acceleration and top speed comparisons, that is, if you wanted to publish a non-biased article giving an accurate comparison between different products. Fact is, I have heard the expression "Yamawheels" more than once. Alot of people seem to think that they have tendency to favor Yamaha. I don't really have an opinion myself, but where there is smoke, there is usually fire. For the record I think that Yamaha makes a great product and always has, the YFZ was my first choice when I was shopping for a new ATV, but I found the best deal on an LTR so that is what I bought. The Yamaha may very well be capable of the speed that dirtwheels claims, they have a fancy new type of igniton that may be capable of getting a few more RPM's out of the motor. The part that I think is wierd is the Honda only going 69mph.

DirtDemon i think 73mph is right but in my june 2009 issue i looked and same 1 guy test all of the machines on the drag it says they used a magellan gps for those numbers so i think the problem is in the other issues they probly used a different method of testing speed or a craper gps......STOOPIDBOT also i was doin some reaserch and found out that on the 06 and 07 models have worse steering then the earlier models i forget what their called butt in the newer models they made the top of the front wheels tilt in and making it feel jaring

I promise you the TRX does more than 69. Mine is piped/intake and jetted. I out run the DS450's(with comparable upgrades) on the 1 mile straights in my races.

I know it does, my usual riding buddy rides an '08 TRX it would run almost dead even with my LTR on top speed when they were both completely stock.

First, the Can Am DS450 does not come with Fox Shocks, that is Polaris. Second, the Rotax motor puts out impressive numbers, they do not have a slouch of a motor.

I know that the 04-05 TRX450s had better steering geometry than the 06+. The 04-05's were also slower by about 2mph, but they have an external oil cooler. That is why desert racers generally choose the 04-05, runs cooler.

Not really, the small tires come with higher gearing. Also, it is harder to get traction with the small tires, so the Honda probably accellerates quicker in some cases because it gets better traction. The only real advantage to the smaller tires is better cornering because the quad sits lower. That only helps when riding on a track. The firs thing I did to my LTR, was put bigger tires on it. I ride mostly in the woods, so I need a little more ground clearance. The bigger tires required lower gearing, so I went down 1 tooth on my front sprocket to compensate. Also, I don't know for sure that my LTR was not going a tad faster or slower than the TRX, I am just saying that the Honda kept right up with my LTR, there is no way there is a 4 or 5 mph difference between the two.

I am new to this site. Now down to business, I have been given a Kawasaki 220, tires are trashed and it has been setting for a long time. Do I need a battery in it to find neutral? I know there is a neutral switch and if I shift down(7 times????)   then up one using the neutral switch I should be in Neutral. As you see I am in a learning curve here ......coments welcome.
