So 2 weeks ago sunday i had a accident on my 86' atc250r. Hit a water hole wen i was riding the trails in six gear , i went over handle bars and landed 6 feet ahead of the trike. <Trike ended up in some pine trees some what screw up. Only minor damage to radiator, shroud, front fender, and shifter shif lever. i fractured 3 vertbras in my neck. Kinda lucky. Im not paralyzed or dead, as DOC put it. Got 4-6 weeks off work, and found out that as uv next monday im laid off for 30 days. (:>(::::::::::::

Every things feeling and looking good so far, necks really sore in the morning when i get up. And NO i wasn't wearing a helmet. That was 1 thing that i forgot to grab before we went riding. But any ways i guess it could of been a hell of a lot worse. Could of split my head on a rock or something.

I wish you a speedy recovery and good luck dealing finances. It may actually be a good thing that you got laid off, since you can't claim unemployment benefits if you get hurt and can't work. I have pulled that same move with the puddle, and I cracked a couple of ribs and got some nice bumps and bruises but I was able to ride home although my steering stem was best so bad that the handle bars were practically sitting on top of the gas tank.

6th gear and no helmet?? by the sounds of it you're lucky to be alive....NEVER ride without a helmet! that is the one thing i where no matter what. I don't know how many trees I've bounced off of throughout the past few years....good luck on your recovery...keep us updated!!

How did you bust up the vertebrae? Did you land in the water or the ground?

Hope your recovery is speedy and you don't suffer any future complications from your injuries.

Ive been down and out since Halloween. I broke my ankle in three places and tore the ligaments. I thought I would break my first bone doing something extreme like skydiving, hangliding, rock climbing, three wheeling. But noooooo! I break my ankle all to ell by walking to my car!!! I slipped on a tree stump covered with wet leaves. Im in a walking cast right now and still rely on crutches and a wheelchair to get around. I miss walking, driving, and riding!!!!

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I bought a 1996 Sportsman 500 4x4 about a month ago, and I love it. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing a few problems with the high-range gear. The first problem is that the gear selector will intermittently pop out of high and into neutral. This problem will sometimes occur when starting from a stop and sometimes will also occur while at cruising speed. The last time this happened I stopped and put it back into gear, however, as soon as I tried to throttle the machine would die. I turned it on again with no problems put it back into high and it died again. Once again I turned it on with no problems put it into low instead and it worked fine with no problem. I drove in low down the road slowly for a little and then shifted back into high with no issues.
I plan on working on it this weekend and would just like some opinions or feedback from anyone who may have experienced these problems before. I'm very mechanically inclined but im unsure of exactly where to start as this is the first Polaris ATV that I've owned. Any feedback is appreciated and thanks in advance

I finally got around to working on the TRX, this has been an ongoing problem with this machine. This is a machine that we keep on my Fathers property, i dont see it that often, my brother haad it professionally repaired last year and year before same problem, the new starter gears and bypass gears last about a year and the machine is not used that often, he said he was done with it , so i thought i should go take a look. Sure enough the gears were all malled again.

IMG_4910.mov   There is some slack in there but most is taken up by the gear cover,if anyone with history with these machines has had the same problem, let me know your findings. Where i am now im looking for finding replacement honda gears on Ebay and try those. I suspect the original was replaced with aftermarket gears years ago and they just worse quality as the years go by.

on my left brake handle (for the rear brakes) there's two wires attached to it. What are these wires for? They can't be for the tail light, since it only has on filament  I tried to trace them, but i got lost in the harness. I checked wiring schematics, but didn't see anything like that.
      I'll post a pic later.
