I believe my cooling fan switch has gone bad, the dash goes out except the over heating symbol flashes but the engine is not hot to the touch. So i used a jumper wire from hte accessory side of the ignition switch, so the fan runs if the key is on. A new switch is about $110.00. Has anyone else done this, will it be ok to run like this as long as i check for overheating manually? Or should I replace the switch?

You should replace the defective part, it may be a sensor or a relay. Relays are cheap, I would start there. Check the wiring in the circuit, look for loose connections and make sure you have a good ground. Operating the fan manually is ok for temporary, I would use a toggle switch that you can turn on and off while riding. Run the fan when you are working the motor hard and any time where you aren't going fast enough to get good airflow through the radiator, otherwise you shoul be fine with it off.

I agree, it may be arelay and running it on all the time will just burn your fan out prematurely. If you have to, run a toggle switch. It's very possible that it's a coolant sensor issue.

Add a three position switch, on, off, and auto. Some put a warning light for the off position. Then you can use the on position until you get everything fixed, the off for water crossings, and the auto for when you are back up and running. If you need schematics let me know and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for adding that. I created a new thread with your wiring diagran and sticky'd it, to help others who may be searching for it.

That isn't the complete document, only the one page of it that refers to the model he had a question about. The document I have covers all 'Cats from that year. The original document is a bit over 4 megs. Attached is the index page.

(Weird, I can attach PDF's but not JPG's )

Need some help putting a new ignition switch on this thing. I'm not finding homes for all the wires. I can hook up the white wire and brown wire, But the switch has a B/W and Solid Yellow wire i can't find a home for, and there aren't any more wires in the vicinity from the harness that match this, except one red wire with a double female end crimped on, and a few B/Y grounds. None of the wiring diagrams i've founder or have been given match.
I'm also wondering if i have the wrong switch? some switches appear to have 4 wires and other just 2, the Brown wire and a White wire.
I'm at a loss here. Thanks.
