Why is it that most of the aftermarket bumpers available for ATVs look like a jockstrap hanging on a clothesline? I mean, come on! It took me months to find one that didnt look like I was riding and drying laundry at the same time..... inquiring minds want to know....

Im a dunner not a Trail guy so stick with me......

I can see where you would need a bumper on a Utility Cart.....Pulling people up, Winch that sort of thing......

However,,,,,I dont see the need on a Sport Quad......How much protection does it really Offer???? Just seems like a Gimik to make the front look cool and get your money.....

The purpose of the bumpers on the sport quads is A. protecting your radiator, shocks and all the other valuables. And B. it offers something to grab onto and lift or pull in the case you get stuck. Like a grab bar for the front.

Look how much stuff is protected behind the bumper.

PS. I think Blingstar offers the sickest looking bumpers.

believe me my friend I know what they are for. My question was WHY do most of them for sport quads look like a jockstrap ona clothesline? I am CERTAIN we can be more creative, as Speedwerks has done. I was HAPPY to purchase one that didn't look like a high school locker room launcher hahaha.

they are getting better, but also more expensive....sup with that? esp with suspension: you guys in the shock absorber biz are gonna get a visit and we will get to the bottom of this. seriously. you guys are overpriced.

Raptor8 is out and he's not alone!

I totally agree about the shocks, In my research I came across a set of front shocks for my quad that cost 1800 bucks. The rear shock was about 1200. Maybe Ohlins??? I don't remember, I quickly closed that page and laughed.

Does my bumper look like a teen athletic supporter?

Back on topic, anyone have any stories on how their bumper works?

I was on some NASTY trail and I came to a spot that was a near vertical drop of about 20 feet. So I got off my quad to look for a safe way down. I finally found one and right as I turn around my quad starts rolling down the drop off. My bars were cocked to the side so my quad rolled down at an angle. My quad hit a tree square on the bumper and stopped. Not a single mark or bend in the bumper. That is what I call strong.

i LOVE the PRM bumpers....that is what I have, Raptor....and it was a more expensive one...I believe I paid about $140.00 with shipping to get it here....

The first PRM I had was actually my husbands...he had it on his quad from 2004-2007...then when he got his 450, we put it on my 400.....the thing had protected his quad so many times from slammin trees or other quads in front...

Once we got it on mine I loved it just as much! It was about midway through this race season ...I slammed a tree the hardest I ever have in my life....so hard that I nearly went over the bars....pretty scary actually..and that hit right there split the bumper in half! So, the bumper lasted about 4.5 years which I think is pretty narly...

My new bumper is bigger than the first PRM I had...and I've already hit a few trees and quads myself...and my front end is still perfect :) :) I LOVE IT!!!

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I am new to this site. Now down to business, I have been given a Kawasaki 220, tires are trashed and it has been setting for a long time. Do I need a battery in it to find neutral? I know there is a neutral switch and if I shift down(7 times????)   then up one using the neutral switch I should be in Neutral. As you see I am in a learning curve here ......coments welcome.

Hi folks, a little disparity brought me to this forum.  To set the stage, I'm a 35 auto tech in the industry 37 years now.  Licensed motorcycle tech also, 20+ years.  I race superbike and motocross.  Always done most of my own standard work (outside of specific race machine works) including building my own race bike engines.  Now that skills are out of the way, onwards and upwards.
Helping a neighbor with his old quest 500, right front axle seal leak.  Well, looks like everything else - right?  Wrong!  Initially I noticed the CV joint was lacking large lands to place prybars on to pop it out, rather a thin shield like ring very close to the diff seal.  Knowing the ring appeared quite delicate, I only pried gently and the CV popped out.  However this is where things get weird.  Came out only around 7-9mm then hung up again, felt like the clip was catching inside the diff.  So spun and pulled, spun and pulled until I was blue in the face but no success getting it out.  Also while it was out, I could see that the delicate ring around the outer circumference of the joint was actually the sealing surface where the seal contacts, instead of the norm where the seal rubs inside the diff much deeper and stays cleaner.  I've never seen a joint like this, also the service manuals photos which apply to 650 also reflected a standard joint I am accustomed to rather than this one I was fighting with.  Rather than break something in the diff, I decided to stop while I was ahead and reassemble the machine before something broke.  (The joint would pop in and out of place easy enough, just wouldn't slide out further than 7-9mm).  While the joint was a little out and sealing surface exposed, I cleaned the seal and sealing surfaces clean as possible before putting back together.  Seems to be holding for now, but eventually I'm sure the leak will come back.  Any thoughts as to why that CV joint just refused to come all the way out?

Just aquired this Honda 4514. I had heard of them and seen them but had never really looked at one. Amazing machine from the 90s.
It has a 14 HP inline 2 cylinder engine. A cute little fan like the old school cars had and a little radiator. It has a timing belt on the back of the engine running the cam and a water pump. Just like a miniature car engine with  electronic clutches to turn blades on and off. Pretty hight tech for the 90s not a small thing and built like a tank weighs in at 600 pds hydrostatic trans. I have found out that almost anything you have to do to it the engine has to come out starter timing belt water pump. Very expensive parts i think most got junked for that reason, i did find out they were built by John Deere except for the honda engine.
Does anyone here have any expierience with these.
