I just acquired a 1994 Timberwolf 250 2wd. Drove fine at seller’s property. Got home, I started it, put it first gear, shifted to reverse, backed out of trailer, moved reverse shifter back forward, then nothing. Throttle revs but doesn’t go anywhere. The shift lever doesn’t really feel like it’s going through gears. I can roll it manually forever so I’m pretty sure it’s in neutral, but no neutral light. Then I decided to try reverse again, and, it goes into reverse. And drives in reverse. But as soon as I take it out of reverse, it rolls freely again. I can’t get it into any forward gear. The seller has owned it for 20 years (60 year old man). He didn’t have a manual so I’ve ordered a Clymer (I’m old school paper in my hand reader). Outward appearance is very good. Not sure about the light but I'd assume that will come right when the cable/rod is adjusted or fitted correctly.

I'm not familiar with that model but some of them use a shift cable. If the shift cable outer comes unattached it can pull a linkage but not perhaps push the lever.

Move the hand shift lever and look underneath near the gearbox looking for a cable/rod or lever moving. Check it has full travel.

I just had a look in a manual and it has a shift rod on the left side of the engine. Perhaps disconnect that and try shifting by hand, to see if it works, and to feel for any shift happening inside there..

So, after going over everything, I found that the reverse shifter has a “lock” button under it. So I depressed it, pushed the lever just a little further “out” of reverse until I heard a click. Then the shift lever freed up, went down to neutral, light came on. All appears to be good! Live and learn. Hope the manual comes soon.

Haha..  Glad it was simple. I'm surprised no yamaha rider suggested that. It will be in the owners manual no doubt. I had heard of a button and/or a lever, but I thought that was to get it into reverse.

It quite often happens that some designed in safety feature gets taken as a fault. I guess this interlock button is intended as a safety feature.

Stupid safety !

      1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?
       
      2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

      So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good. 
      I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.  
      I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.

      Hello All
      I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!
