Picked up a 86’ LT 185 for $10 in trade value(my items only cost me $10)

recoil only , I pull the recoil and it won’t move , so I took it off , I can spin the crank there one full turn left then it locks up , and one full turn back to the right and it locks up

pulled the plug , the piston is moving up n down , both valves are moving(pulled the caps)

pulled the clutch off , oil pump gear , and it still locks up after one turn

any ideas or where to go from here would be greatly appreciated

im a 2 stroke guy so this all is new to me

thank you in advance y’all

Does it stop hard or just get harder to turn, if it stops hard something has come loose inside the engine, it could be a loose rod bolt stopping it but still attached enough to roll over the piston, just one senario, something could be wrong with the clutch gear stopping it, i would try taking off the side covers first and see if everything is in tact there and see if any thing is going on there, regardless good score. I think you will definately get your 10 dollars worth.

Both side covers are off , clutch is off , oil pump gear is off , it turns one full rotation both ways then stops , there’s a click it sounds like in front then it stops

I’m new here , can I post a video of it ?

They can jump a tooth on the sprocket, especially common just as the engine comes to a rest after being shut off. Caused by worn sprockets or chain, or a defective tensioner.

I recently bought a 87 TRX 250 not running of course, the owner had a brand new Key Switch on it.
I think it is the wrong one or wrong wire colors as the colors dont match up with wiring diagram i downloaded for it.
anyone have a pic of their ign switch wires where they connect with the wire colors for that model? I ended up leaving the black/w stripe and
green wire disconnected in order to hot wire it for other testing but would like to know as the colors dont match diagram.

I get it, turn counterclockwise will decrease, turn clockwise will increase.  My question is what exactly am i increasing or decreasing? Is it clutch pressure? In many videos i've seen it's always "turn counterclockwise" until you feel resistance then back off. Why is it always to decrease?
I'm just curious as to what exactly is going on when i turn that screw right or left. And, since there's no manual clutch to engage or disengage, what is going on inside?
Reason why i'm asking is while going down a hill in 1st gear, it appears to pops out of gear, but no neutral light, and if i stop, it's in 1st gear still. BUT, (always a but) if the engine is warmed up, it stays in 1st gear. The hill is too steep to use any other gear, so 1st with the brakes is the only way to go down.
