atvredefined Posted August 7, 2008 #1 Posted August 7, 2008 sup guys, jus curious if anyone knows how to coat bare metal. what would i use to prevent rust w/out having a griesy residue? will any clear paint stick? i want the polished metal to show. cant afford a durablu at the time! Quote
01 RAPPY 660 Posted August 7, 2008 #2 Posted August 7, 2008 if u had something like a 3 in 1 oil to put on your frame so it wont rust and at the same time it will not show, that would be good. but the down side paint wont stick to oil so then again.... well good luck! Quote

Where do you need to cover? The frame above my pegs has been worn down to bare metal. Clean the metal, get any oil off and get some of this. Grip Tape It's a grip tape, comes in several colors. Will keep all the moisture off the metal. A plus for my needs was it helps keep your feet in place when in the air. When the insides of my boots grab it you're stuck. A plus for other needs on the frame is it will last longer than paint. Just as easy to replace if needed. Just scrape old sticker off, clean the metal and reapply. Quote
SunLrider Posted August 7, 2008 #4 Posted August 7, 2008 Where do you need to cover? probably, a swingarm Quote

Stoopidbot1 Posted August 7, 2008 #6 Posted August 7, 2008 For that, get some steel wool and rub the rust off. It's just superficial, then get some good clear coat. Put several layers on. It will chip off and wear away. Just reapply. Quote

REVOLTING! Quote

SunLrider Posted August 8, 2008 #16 Posted August 8, 2008 use compressed air i used that to clean the lifters from my dads car, it friggin cut me! Quote
atvredefined Posted August 8, 2008 Author #17 Posted August 8, 2008 use compressed air those little partickles stick so there was still some in the paint. i guess it floats in the air and then comes back down later before paint dries Quote
mywifeknowseverythin Posted August 13, 2008 #18 Posted August 13, 2008 its for my axle i polished it and it lasted a month but now theres rust blotches This will sound a Bit Strange to some......However,,,,,Many Moons ago this is what we used to do....My Dad did it....All his Friends did it....Many, Many people that lived on the coast Back then did it....But I havent seen it in a While..... To prevent Rust from Building up on your Axle,,,,,They would take Leather (about 6" or so) and Loop it around the Axle,,,One on Each side....And then RIDE !!!!! When it wore through they would just replace it......The Friction would keep the Axle clean and somewhat Shiny.... It worked.....Never had a Problem with rust:wink: Someone over on .ORG is trying it right now....You can see where it is working Quote
