Can anyone tell me how to set the parking brake? I can’t figure it out there seems to be a lever on the hand brake but there is no way to engage it into anything. Don’t know if maybe something is missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Most that i have worked on has a lever on the hand brake like you said and a slit in the lever and a pin you pull the hand brake and engage the lever into the pin and that keeps the lever in the pulled position.

On mine you pull your brake lever hard and then swing a little steel lever,,  um.. you reach over with the right hand and sort of sweep the little lever back as you let the brake lever off and the little lever stops it.. presses in between the brake lever and the mount or something. Pull the brake hard, swing the little lever in a backward direction and see where it jambs.

To let it off you just squeeze the brake. The brake has to be adjusted just right for it to be both apply-able, and effective.

It should lock into something under the rubber cover when you pull the brake lever slide the lever to the right looking at the last photo i cant really see if aanything is missing under there but it should lock in and hold the brake lever in the pulled position

That sort is meant to have a different brake lever, with a steel stud poking up. Someone's changed it with some common off the shelf lever. Or the correct lever is on the other side of the bike with the peg poking down.

Here is a few pictures. Is something missing? Thanks for responding.

that makes sense it’s either broken or the wrong handle.

would anyone be able to post a picture of the correct handle I need or one that isn’t broken if that’s the case?

Im thinking maybe the correct bolt fell out and was replaced, but the finish looks the same, number 14 may be what you are missing

Sorry Mech, your post snuck in while i was doing mine, this is from a 95 not sure if its King quad didnt know the model #, and thats the way they were designated.

That does look like the right lever.. When I looked up the 1995 it showed a lever without the pin. I didn't find the pin type till 2004 kingquad. That was using partzilla and babbits.  There are so many different markets though, and what's fitted in one market in one year, isn't always the same in some other market for the year..

See the picture I posted Jeff has a bit underneath for a brake light switch.. your's may not have that..

Where's you look up that picture Gw ?

Gwbarm, you referred to part 14 but I’m thinking I need part 15 the handle with what looks like a pin protruding from it to lock the lever into. That would hold the brake on if that’s what it looks to be.

Actually guys, that might not be the right part.. I've seen pictures of the lever with a little shallow groove right there where that thing that might or might not be a pin is. The diagrams are normally pretty good and clear..  That could be a shallow groove and not a pin. I've seen levers with a groove there..

If I was ordering the part Jim, I'd mail them and get them to confirm it is the right part, with a pin.. It's not a cheap part.

Ok this a picture from the CMS catalogue and it definitely shows the pin that is to lock it on. It’s $31.00 which seems a little pricey.  Anyway that solves it I think.
Thanks everyone for the help. I appreciate it once again you guys came through.

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.

First post here need some help/advice. I bought a 2001 king quad 300, vin number JSAAK43A212111871. I have been trying to do some basic maintenance as it runs but doesn't idle all that well . I want to take out and clean/repair the  carb but when looking for parts it ask for model X Y K1 K2. How do I know which model I have? I have tried some vin decoders but they haven't told me. If anyone could recommend a carb rebuild kit for my quad Id appreciate it. Also any tips on tracking down an owners manual?
