No I’ve been trying to deal with this gear shift problem, so far I’m spending and waiting on tools more  than parts. Getting a battery impact wrench and a 27 mm impact socket to remove the clutches . I found another video on the trx350te engine tear down and it said the lock nuts on both clutches were 27 mm. Hope they are right. Should be here soon. Figured if it didn’t run I didn’t need the lights. So I put them on hold for now. But hopefully I’ll need help on them before too long.

I did notice on the 420 video the nuts were 27 wasn't really sure if yours were the same since you measured. Thought the video might help it was a descent video. I will take a look at wiring diagram and get back to you, does the starter work when you press the button.

Yes starter works. I had it running before the gear shift problem came up. Just couldn’t shift gears. Thanks for all your help it really means a lot, to have someone help like that.

I think the key switch is not working properly. It has two power feeds in, both connected together of course, and then two individual live wires coming out when the key is on. I think one of the two isn't getting switched on.

Most switches can be dismantled and cleaned. I'd check it with an ohm gauge before pulling it off though..  I may be wrong about the switch.. but it's what my wiring diagram suggests. If it's not the switch, then it's a broken wire from the key switch to the fuse box probably.

I checked the schematic also and came up with the same conclusion as Mech , switch or fuse. You might double check just to make sure you are getting power to the switch

I don’t know. I had 12.2 V at the ignition switch and 12.2V at the starter switch and the light switch. I’m thinking it might be some of the connector they go through for the others wires. I checked continuity on the red wire to the first connector and it was good, not sure what the black wire from the ignition switch is but it may have a problem I’ll recheck it today. Electrical problems are a pain in the rear. I’m not sure how to check the wiring that runs from front all the way to the fuse box, but looks like to me if I’m getting the 12.2V to the switches they should have worked. Got to figure on how to check the tail lights.that socket for the clutches won’t be here until Monday they say. So I’ll keep fumbling trhojythis electrical stuff.makes it had on someone who’s color blind, that why I eent into mechanical maintenance instead of electrical.

I haven’t yet my meter crapped out on me and had to get a new one. I get most of my stuff from Lowes because I get a veterans discount. But they’ve got wher the don’t keep anything in stock you have to wait till they get it in. Anyway, I’ll check it after I try these nuts a little while longer. Thank for the help. I’m getting to the point I hate to walk out the door and see the thing. I’ll keep on keeping on for a while longer.

When you are tracing the power through the switch and to the fuses and then the light switch Ej, try the voltage with the light switch on. It may be that there is a tiny trickle of power getting through a bad connection, and it's enough to make the gauge show 12 volts when the lights are off and not drawing power, but once the load comes on and uses all the tiny trickle, then the voltage will drop off to .. sometimes almost zero, sometimes only five or so volts.. not enough to make lights glow.

There was no one answer. Two people mech and gw were both guiding me along. They are two great people that helped me on a very long journey. Finally go it going and the motor locked up on me. At that time I had enough didn’t want to put anymore money or time in it. So I called it quits. Something I don’t like to do. But it was time to let it go. Mech and gw can fix anything they are both very knowledgeable and great teachers I thank Quad crazy for giving me the opportunity to learn a lot and meet two friends. Thanks Wuad Crazy for a great forum.

Good to hear from you EJ i have been wondering how things were going with you, thanks for the kind words, i know you have been at this one for a while and have put lots of time and money into it, sorry it didnt work out, but i completely understand, as you get older time is more valuable elsewhere. Hopefully you will find a good one to purchase so you can ride and enjoy. Still curious though as to why it locked up.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.

I recently bought a 87 TRX 250 not running of course, the owner had a brand new Key Switch on it.
I think it is the wrong one or wrong wire colors as the colors dont match up with wiring diagram i downloaded for it.
anyone have a pic of their ign switch wires where they connect with the wire colors for that model? I ended up leaving the black/w stripe and
green wire disconnected in order to hot wire it for other testing but would like to know as the colors dont match diagram.

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
