When my quad is shifted into reverse, the light on the speedometer doesn't come on. I've dug into the wiring and can't find anything other than it being a faulty switch. How do I get to this switch, is there a way to take it off without tearing it apart? I see that it may be accessible if I take off the air box but I am unsure of this. Thanks!

No offense, but it's been overlooked before...  have you checked the bulb ?

The wires run up near the top right frame rail I think, under the seat..  I'd test the switch, there at the connector.

I have checked the bulb and it is fine I just don't know if there are any other ways of making sure before I tear into my quad.

If you find the reverse switche's connector, disconnect it, and then either test the operation of the switch with an ohm gauge, or, use a wire to short the wiring connector on the loom which should make the light come on..  That's how to confirm or eliminate the switch as the culprit.

You should check the reverse lever is traveling full travel down on the case, perhaps disconnecting the cable and moving the lever by hand.

I tried what you said and it didn't work. Could it be that the switch isn't getting power to it? I took a wire and touched it to the neutral switch connector and touched the other end to the reverse light wire and the light came on. So could it be that the reverse switch has a loose connection and is not getting power to it? Thanks!

Ok. Both the neutral light and the reverse light get power directly from the key switch, then, the switches(neutral and reverse) earth either bulb to make them glow when they need to be on They do that by being connected via the reverse switch, to the neutral switch. The reverse switch connects either the reverse or the neutral lights to the neutral switch, which then earths them if it's in neutral.  Both the neutral light and the reverse light use the reverse switch on their way to the neutral light switch to be earthed.

If you have a multi meter with an ohm gauge I think you should use that to test that the reverse switch is swapping the connection between the blue wire on the switch, and the blue and red wire, and blue and black wires.. The reverse switch should operate like a two way switch. The blue wire should get connected to either blue/red or blue/black depending on whether the bike is in reverse or not.

Since the neutral light is working we know that set of contacts in the reverse switch are ok, and that the neutral switch;s contacts are ok, so you just need to check the blue/red wire is getting a good connection to the blue wire oh the switch when it's in reverse.

If it isn't making contact, then either the switch is crook, or the reverse is not being fully engaged to operate the switch.

      Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

      5 broken Ribs
      1 Punctured Lung
      1 Broken Collar Bone

      I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?
