I'm not really to great with the fourms, but quick update. We pulled off the air box and emptied the mouse nest....little buggers deatroyed the foam filter. Pulled carb cleaned and re installed. Put a bunch of two stroke oil in the cylinder the night before let it soak. Quad has a manual pull, so gently pulled it over no issues at all.

Oil change.....and added gas and battery

The thing started first pull! Still have a ton of work ahead but it was encouraging to hear it run!

Hi,

New here. Actually I'm fairly new to working on bikes. I've got some experience with engines (and usually a quick study), but I inherited a Yamaha Moto 4 200 a couple years ago when my dad passed.

My dream is to fix it up and have it running like it did years ago. Only problem is that he parked it on a camping/hunting property and didn't move it for 20 years. Engine still seems fine (pulls free, good compression, etc). The issue is going to be the back end that froze up.

I plan on it being quite the challenge, and would have probably walked away from it, but it's one of only a few things I acquired from the ol man. You all know how that goes with sentimental things and what not.

On top of that, I've also got a few other bikes I've acquired recently and am looking to get greasy, dirty and a bit bruised (knuckles and body). Lol.

Really looking forward to getting to know everyone as I attempt this journey.

I do have one general question, though. Is the app/site limited to just quads, or are there topics on all types of off road toys (from 2 to 4 wheels)?

Hey Ichabod,

I have an 1988 moto 4 200, spent a ton of time on it....long story but running well today. A lot of parts for these are no longer available. I do have a pdf copy of the service manual. I have no idea if its cool to share it on the site or not. Keep me on the loop happy ro share any knowledge that I have. Just replaced front shocks on mine with off shore units, they work fine. Anyways good luck and look forward to updates.

Sorry for responding so late. My wife had some health issues recently and everything else went to the wayside. She's doing better now, and I just realized that I had this new Quad app I had forgotten I set up an account for! 😂😂

I just want to say, SilverLaker, that you are a Godsend! Thank you so much! I've been looking everywhere for the service manual (not just a generic one for multiple models) and haven't seemed to have much luck with it. I can't express how amazing you are for this!

Whether we're supposed to share stuff like that on here, I'm not sure, but I won't tell if you won't. 😂 Actually, now that you graced me with this gift of mana, they'll have to tear it from my cold dead hands (or, dead phone to be precise) before I give it up. Lol.

Once I get caught up with my To Do Lists (my own and the obligatory Honey-Do-List) that I feel behind on, I'm gonna start tearing up the Moto. I can't wait! If the stars align, I might even be able to get the best running and take a trail trip before winter sets in (Michigan be a frigid bi*** when November comes). 😂😂😂

Yeah . . Ive got a 96 fourtrax here of my bros. It runs fine +/- tuning and tweaking and some odds and ends repaired or fabbed up (theft recovery)

It has the opposite problem.

Ran it up my hill . . turned around . . ran it down the hill . . .

Almost ended in the ravine on the other side of the road . . .

The brakes worked fine for him . .  on flat ground.

Told him NO ONE was touching it til I got the brakes fixed.

I'm so happy to be able to help out. I know sometimes it can be so frustratung trying to find a good service manual. I have been busy here too with kids hockey etc. And havent spent much time on my projects either. Let me know if there is anything you need help with on your machine, if its something I have encountered I may be able to offer some advice.

Glad to help out and I'm looking forward to  some updates on your Moto4.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
