So i have had this trx 250 that i brought back from the grave. Long story

but got it running and the master cyl eye glass was broken out so it hasnt worked in years.

I replaced it, filled and bled the cyl, bled the brakes, I dont see any air coming out when im bleeding them

but no matter what no pressure on handle. Will stop the turning wheel if spun by hand but wont hold at all.

I adjusted the brakes also, checked for leaks at the brake cyls, all good. No leaks at lines or fittings, I have put a lot of fluid

throught them and i know the routine as i did brakes on autos for years. Have new washers on master cyl, I would hate to replace

parts knowing their good. Funny thing, few years ago same style vehicle i bought same broken master cyl and same problem after

replaced. No pressure, Any ideas? Pretty simple system but maybe you guys have had similar problems. Thanks Az

Just so you know I have replaced the complete master cyl, not just the glass. Az

Will the MC pump fluid out if you just crack a line?  If not, then it's probably defective out of the box.  Sometimes air pockets are nearly impossible on those little MC's so often times you have to power bleed them with a suction gun.

Rather than suction , pushing fluid back from the wheel cylinder bleeds to the master cylinder can clear  an air  lock  if that happens to be the problem. Used that a few times on old auto  systems that  didn't want to  clear trapped air through normal bleeding.

I bled the m/c first, gravity fed both lines forever, Pumped up and bled

the standard way, barely any tension on lever, it does come shooting out of the bleeder

when bleeding but still not enough to activate brakes. I even clamped off 1 line at a time.

When doing so it increased the tension on lever a lot but still not right. I even was tapping on the brake line where

it connects to the wheel cyls, and also at the y connector, still same condition. Easiest things seem to mess with

you the most. Like i said before also had another one with a broken m/c and ended up same problem. Never did get

enough pressure to slow you down. Would not even keep you from rolling it with the brake on. Dam Hondas! Az

If anyone is having issues with the Mikuni VM24SS carb, I thought I would post what issues I had and how I resolved them.
Acquired a 93 Bayou 220 that had sat for over 4 years.
The carb was extremely corroded and pitted and full of leftover fuel.
Cleaned carb and bowl and was able to get the engine to start.
Within 30 seconds exhaust would heat up and start to glow red hot.
Removed carb and recleaned everything, including a second overnight soak.
Needless to say, after removing the carb for the 5th time and my frustration to the limit I
realized that my attention had been to the carb body and not to the bowl.
There is a small brass rod on the bottom of the carb that goes down into the float bowl but is seperated from the main section. I had cleaned that area very well....I had thought.
***The corrosion had sealed off the channel that runs from the main bowl section to the small tube section on the side of the float bowl. No amount of carb cleaner was going to get it to budge. So i took a small nail and started to scrape away the corrosion and was eventually able to dislodge enought of the corrosion that carb cleaner would flow through that channel. ***
I thoroughly cleaned each side of the channel in the float bowl and reinstalled the carb and now the issue of it running lean is gone.
On a second note the fuel mixture screw was a nightmare to remove as the threads had been corroded and wouldnt let the screw come out. I used a little cutting oil and worked the mixture screw in and out until I was able to push past the corroded threads and completely remove the needle. After a couple passes with a tap to clean the threads it is like new again.
Hope this helps if you are having a lean running machine.

I finally got around to working on the TRX, this has been an ongoing problem with this machine. This is a machine that we keep on my Fathers property, i dont see it that often, my brother haad it professionally repaired last year and year before same problem, the new starter gears and bypass gears last about a year and the machine is not used that often, he said he was done with it , so i thought i should go take a look. Sure enough the gears were all malled again.

IMG_4910.mov   There is some slack in there but most is taken up by the gear cover,if anyone with history with these machines has had the same problem, let me know your findings. Where i am now im looking for finding replacement honda gears on Ebay and try those. I suspect the original was replaced with aftermarket gears years ago and they just worse quality as the years go by.

Hi everyone, I’m new here and new to 4 wheelers. Just got a Yamaha bear tracker 250 and joined here to see if I could get some help.
The motor runs and it drives if it up on jackstands but if you get on and try to ride it, it starts to drive but then quits after a foot or two and dies out and won’t drive. The guy I got it from said he was running and using it shifting through all the gears great and he started it up the next day and it started this.
He told me he thought it was the U joint on the driveshaft. He said it was probably worn and needed to be replaced.
I just finished pulling the swing arm and rear end assembly to check out the U joint and there’s no play in it. It’s tight and not nearly enough play to be loose enough to not catch and go.
Any ideas on what it could actually be?
      Thanks
      Timothy
