ATV Issues at higher altitudes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 2005 Yamaha Bruin 350 atv,  I live in Pennsylvania and  planned on using it in Colorado in a few weeks.  I'm being told by people that I may run into some issues at the higher altitudes ( 6500 to 9000 feet ) since the atv has a carburetor.  Can someone provide some insight?  Thanks.

Yes,  the  only  adjustment on most  carbs  is the idle air screw.  It   mainly  allows  proper idling  and  when  set right  stops the  motor  from  stumbling when you go to accelerate .   If  you  will  be regularly  running at those altitudes you  would need  help  to  re-jet  your  carb.  If it  is  just for  a short time , I wouldn't  bother with the re-jetting. You'll lose some  power (18-20%) but unless you're into  full  bore  running  you'll  hardly  notice it .  The worst  you  might notice  is  idle and stumbling off idle  and that  can  be remedied  by the  air screw  adjustment  and that setting is likely  only to  need about  a 1/4 turn from  where it is  now. The  idle  air  screw  is likely to  be  the  only thing on your carb to  have a  thumb screw  for adjustment.  It  is normally  only  about  1 1/2 to 2 turns  out  from  seated.

I picked up a 2000 Big Bear 400 4X4 that was sitting around that I know nothing about. It will not start. I do have a red light when in reverse. When I take it out of reverse, I do not get a green neutral light, and when I push the start button the red oil light comes on but there are no noises, nothing else happens. How do I test the neutral switch and/or bypass it to see if I can get it to at least crank? And does anyone have other suggestions for me to try?

      Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a 2005 50cc Polaris Predator for my granddaughter.
The wiring is a mess. most of it appears to be jumpered out (twisted together).
I installed a new carburetor. The gas tank was cracked so I found another one on ebay and got that installed. There is no air filter box. I ordered another one but, it has not arrived yet.
I did get it cranked with the kick start. But, it idles too fast and when you give it any throttle the motor dies off. The more throttle you give it the faster it dies off. It is very hard to start when it has not been running for a while. However, once it has warmed up, it starts on the first kick every time after that.
I am looking for a little assistance in getting it running better and also a wiring diagram and service manual if possible.
      Thanks in advance....

So I have an 89 Yamaha moto 4 250cc and when I ride it, itll get hot after like 10-15 mins and then will just die and turn off.
It's has new carb rebuild, new air filter, new battery, new spark plug so I don't think it's a crack in the spark plug
      Can anyone help me?

      Hi guys
My 87 Bear 350 won't start and could use a hand.
Turn key on and Oil light turns on and then slowly fades out. (I think this is key to this) No start, not even a tick.
      battery and connections good
A Solenoid post jump turns it over
Neutral Safety Switch wire attached and seems good
It has not had a wire/switch on Rear Brake Pedal ever since I had it.
Any thoughts on some other things to troubleshoot this??
