Hey I just recently bought a 2002 Kawasaki Bayou 220 when you shift it jumps a lot and while it’s riding it it’s jumping as well but won’t stay started when you let off the gas Could somebody tell me what could possibly be the problem? Thank you

It kinda bucks I guess but it’s got plenty of gas I ordered a new petcock Because it also drips gas very slowly when it’s sitting not running and I read that could be the problem but I don’t know if that has anything to do with the jumping

No I haven’t but now when he was shifting it splattered oil everywhere and a bunch of hoses came loose that were underneath and we can’t figure out where the hoses go to can anybody help me out with this? I have found where one of the ends connect but I can’t find where the other connects!!!

The other hoses most likely don’t connect to anything. They are breather and over flow hoses. They are supposed to run down the back of the engine and hang.   If it spits oil out it really can only be from a few things.

You over filled the engine with too much oil.

The bike was tipped over and oil got into the over flow hoses.

The engine breather line that goes to your air box is clogged.

Really ok so none of the hoses bigger or smaller go to anything? So how would I unclog The engine great airline or check to see if it is clogged And how would I get the oil out if it was overfilled would I just pulled the drain plug and let some of it out?

That’s your carburetor bowl overflow. It should run down to the bottom behind the engine.  If fuel is coming out then the float in the carburetor is having an issue.  It’s not raising up and pushing the pin that shuts fuel down.   Maybe a quick carb rebuild may be in order.

Oil issue, drain the oil out and might as well change it. There should be a sight glass on the side of the engine or a dip stick.  Find it and fill it back up accordingly.

Ok and there is also some oil dripping and a burning smell and a little smoke coming off the engine

Thank you so much for your help I know nothing about these things I bought it for my son used and I guess it came with some problems

Your welcome but it’s no big deal. The  smoke coming off of the engine on my bayou was the small valve access caps on the top of the engine.

May not be your problem but this is what I did.  First I bought a can of gunk  engine cleaner. Follow the directions on how to use it and clean it good. This way you can see where the oil is coming from.

Two caps have o rings and they flatten out over time. I took mine off left the o rings in place. Cleaned them from any grease and put high heat silicone and re installed.

Again this may not be your problem but worth a look.

You will get the hang how to do things on the bike just take your time and ask if your not sure. Put a piece of cardboard under the bike so you don’t stain the floor with the dripping oil.

My son didn’t know much about atvs and two years into it it’s a great pass time hobby we have now. We find older neglected or garage buried bikes and fix them up and bring them back to life.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?

Bought 4 wheeler for kids. Used to run and soon as it was put in gear it died. I have put new carburater, new plug and battery. The neutral light won't come on. I replaced the solenoid, then the positive battery cable and today put new relay assembly on. Still no neutral light. Not getting any juice and I don't know why.
