Hello All,
I am looking for any help or suggestion that I might be able to get on how to wire a '04 Kodiak 400 4x4 motor into a Coleman Outfitters / Hisun 400 4x4 Utv. This machine had the Kodiak motor installed and was running until someone stripped the wiring to install new harness. They destroyed the old harness so it of little use now. We have a new harness for the Utv and part of the wiring to the Kodiak CDI and Voltage regulator/rectifier is in place. For now I am just trying to find a good diagram of the wiring needed to Power up the motor. Any help with this part of our issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to help my son this machine running since he bought into this nightmare.
Thank you,

Let's start here. What wiring harnesses do you have and what's on them. Give in details.

Example: full harness uncut and the one on the machine has the stator wires cut and no ignition but the cdi and relays are different.
You need colors of wires and knowledge of which harnesses you have.

I used a kx motor with Yamaha electronics. On a Suzuki frame. It's possible.

Hello. I will try to give you more detail now and I'm waiting for some pics of the CDI, Voltage Reg/Rect, all that came with the Kodiak motor from my son.

What we have is a New complete wiring harness for the Utv, the old harness that someone pulled out and stripped it into a pile of loose wires and cut off many of the contacts.

The Kodaik looks as though they pulled the motor with the CDI and voltage reg/rect left wired up for the most part. The wring that is there for the motor includes the connectors for the connection between the motor and the Cdi box. I think we mostly need to understand how or where we need to supply 12vdc power to the motor.

This motor had been installed in this machine and had been running and usable until they had someone pull the old wiring to install the new harness. For some reason they stopped working on it.

I will review the new pics as soon as I get them and try to come back with more specific info on wires and colors and such.

I thank you for your time and interest in helping us.

Hello sorry but it has taken me a few days to get some info from my son. I have many new pics of the wiring on his machine and we have a major problem. We do have a Complete brand new harness for the Utv but when someone pulled the old harness they tore it apart. Many of the connector ends were cut off and are gone. What is on the machine now is just the Kodiak motor and the harness that came with it for it's CDI box and voltage Reg/Rect... The motor harness has some of the connectors still in place for the CDI and the reg/rect. but where the wires were cut, probably where they connected to the Utv and it's harness there is a problem. When they installed the motor they spliced it's harness wires to the machine using a single light blue wire and when they made the cuts to strip the old Utv harness out they cut on the light blue wire not the colored wires from either of the other harnesses. This left little if any trace as to what wire from motor was connected to which wire on the machine. I'm left with trying to figure out how to get the needed 12 volt to the motor so we can try to get it running as I'd really like to know that the motor runs ok before doing the rest of the wiring

I have to keep looking for the wiring diagrams for the Kodiak side that will help me understand it's power needs so I can do some testing. I thank you for your time and hope I might still be able to pick your brian for some help on this but I guess for now I have to plow ahead with figuring out color wires from the motor go to what colors on the machine and/or it's harness.

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving day and hope to be able to contact you again in the near future.

The problem with splicing wires is yes it will work. Dont submerge it in water or you will short it out and possibly blow that electronic. But to test and make it run will work.

I thank you for the offer. I will go back to the site and try some more but I'm having trouble finding a manual that I for the Kodiak in English. But I will try again.

Thank you for the input.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

So we are almost a month into winter and I've been so busy working on my house that up until today, I didn't realize that we just haven;t gotten any real snow yet to warrant putting the plow on my grizzly. So that got me thinking, what are the latest plows out there and what ATV plows are the best? I've got 2 snow plows for my grizzly, a quadboss pile driver atv plow set up and a snowsport ATV plow. They are both a bit dated now and I tend to stick with the snowsport due to ease of use and I just like it so much. So if you have a plow on your ATV, please let us know what it is and post a picture with your atv/plow would be awesome. Would also like to know what you like and dislike about it.
This is back a while when I did a write up on these 2 plows.... in 2009 I got the snowsport and in 2012 I got the quadboss.

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
