2000 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x4 speedo

i was just wondering if you can run my 4 wheeler without the speedometer. i purchased it and the previous owner had broken off the sensor from the case during riding. well 250 dollars later for a new pinion gear and all new bearings and seals. i found out that the speedometer cable is on backorder. my plan is too remove the speed screw from the differential and cover the hole in the case. i was just wondering if that is connected to the hours meter as well?

I see no reason why you couldn't run it without the cable connected. Usually the hour meter is separate and gets its reading from the ecm/ignition system.
