New to the group, please be gentle lol.So I just purchased(traded my 73 sportster) for this 1989 Honda fourtrax 300 2wd.i got the quad with a no spark condition, thinking it would be an easy fix. I have tested the stator, pickup coil, coil, and inputs going too the CDI.so far everything has tested good.while doing all this I cleaned/repaired a few dirty connections and replaced the battery and cables.the kill switch is good and the ignition switch is also good.so I ordered 3 cdiand coil kits(because I have another Honda).Tonight I put the new CDI and coil on and tried to check for spark. No spark again.but about 5 seconds after letting loose of the starter button the CDI blew apart.what am I missing here?

Just to add more info.the previous owner stated he was riding the quad and it died.had it pulled home and began to diagnose it.the guy didn't have the proper equipment to do this so he removed the stator cover and took it to a shop for diagnosis.shop told him he had a bad stator, and tried to sell him a stator.when I got the quad I ordered a stator CDI and coil.both stators ohm correct as with the pickup/trigger coils.

Removed wire harness last night and took sheathing off.was very wet inside the sheathing,so today when I get a break I am going to look at all the multi joint connectors,to see if I can see corrosion or oxidation.

I think I may have found the problem.i have a bl,gr,and Rd wire going to the rectifier.the black wire(if I remember correctly) did not have 12v.

If that is right then the voltage stops at the rectifier.

So I can verify the:green(ground)

Red(constant possitive)

Black(switched possitive)

On the rectifier are good, however no continuity on the yellow wires from the other side of the rectifier.they also do not short too ground.could this be the issue?

IT RUNS!!!!! Like crap, but it makes spark and starts. The issue was the CDI,and the new one I ordered from eBay was the wrong one DC I think.went to a local bike shop explained the issue and showed the box from eBay,and he immediately told me I had the wrong CDI unit.thank you fellas for all the help and input.

      I Crashed My Quad
Well the Way I Ride, some of you knew it was Inevitable.
      Below are Three Videos.
First one is Slow Motion of How it Happens.
Second one is Normal Speed, and what happens after the Accident.
Third one Follows more of what happens after .

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.
