Machine ran fine one day, next day nothing. Replaced the coil still no fire. battery is fine, have lights, dash indicators, etc with key on. Cranks over, just no fire.  How do I check the CDI?  Also what is the probability of the stator being bad?  Thoughts?

Spark plug could have gone bad, I owned this exact machine, I had a crack in the spark plug boot once, I replaced the coil & boot as one assembly, it was only a few bucks more to replace both.

but change the plug first

Here is the schematic, looks at item 21 lower right corner, that is the stator, the three black wires are the AC volts for the charging system, the other four wires are the trigger for spark. The 2007 400 models were known for wire harness problems.  The service manual is in the link below. You will have to check to make sure you don't have broken wires from the sensor to the CDI. 2006 and earlier models did have an issue with the stator magnets becoming unglued, but this was solved in the 2007 models. I had that machine for 9 years and put 16,000 miles on it and never had a stator problem. I did have wiring harness problems twice. The service manual should have the procedure to test the spark trigger.

Alright gang here is an update!  Finally pulled the case off. Magneto looks great.  4 of the magnets in the rotor are loose and sliding.( Any home grown epoxy fixes?) Other wise new rotor.  The outer magnet has no magnetism at all. How can the trigger work if this is my finding?  Thanks

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

As the 2025 ATV Motocross National Championship Series (ATVMX), an AMA National Championship, got underway with back-to-back Florida AMA Pro only events, it was evident that Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Joel Hetrick picked up where he left off last season.View the full article

Bought the project a few weeks ago with weak and intermittent spark. I could smack the CDI box with a screwdriver and it would work fine for a few days. Now, the smack trick is not working and machine is running awful with the weak spark and will most often not fire enough to turn the engine over through combustion (cranks very good). I ordered the GY6 CDI to see if I can get it going again as these CDI boxes are way too expensive even used. battery is fully charged and charging very good.

Wondering if anyone knows how the GY6 (6-pin AC) CDI would wire to this machine. Attached is the electrical diagram. My confusion is with the green and orange wires sharing the 2-pin connector and the Blk/Red wire that runs to the magneto solo. How would I get AC power to the CDI through pin 1 on the GY6 when the CDI has two wires to the pickup-myabe just try one (orange then green) at a time?

Ok guys, I am a glutton for punishment! I picked up this 01 2wd Rancher because the plastics looked good on the marketplace. It has been sitting in the guys back yard for 10 years. The original engine blew and they swapped in an electric shift 4x4 engine. 😒The engine is locked up and was full of water. The wiring is hacked where they tried to get it to run and the rear end needs new swingarm bearings where they left it laying on the ground in the woods for 10 years. Has anyone here ever did the engine swap? First thing is to straighten out the wiring and get the engine free to see if I can get it to crank over. I have swingarm bearings ordered and a new ignition switch. So hopefully I can at least roll it around soon. 🤣
