My wife and I purchased two quads to run around on our off grid property one is a 1988 4 wheel drive Quad Runner which starts and runs great the other is a Suzuki LT F 300 King Quad 1999 model the 99 we are having cold starting issues with so the reason I signed up on this forum,it will start eventually after several minuets of feathering the throttle or holding throttle wide open and the choke (en richer) button fully off once it does start and warms up it seems to run really good and the choke seems to work because when you engage the choke while the engine is running it will stall the engine with the choke engaged

it has good spark, new spark plug ,good compression, new carburetor, new battery

I have purchased a manual online for the specific years,I am leaning towards it needing the valves adjusted but really unsure

also I am going to ask what is probably a stupid question to some on here but the way I was taught is the only stupid question is the one you do not ask so here goes the manual I purchased online for the 99 states that the valve clearances for the LT F 300 should be set at Intake-0.03-0.08mm (0.001-0.003 In) and the Exhaust valve set at 0.17-0.22 (0.007-0.009 In) are those settings correct  now for the stupid part of my question no where in the online manual that I purchased does it state which valve is the Intake and which is the Exhaust valve so if someone can answer that it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance for any and all replies and help it is greatly appreciated

Is that new carb or an aftermarket carb set to factory settings or does it have a different jet in it? Any modifications like an aftermarket exhaust? On cold start, the choke should be fully on and at operating temp fully off. If you have it off and  to start it by giving it more gas, I think you have a carb/choke adjustment issue.

it is a new carb not after market with the choke fully on it will not even cough I was going to adjust the valves to spec and then go from there if I can figure out which is the exhaust valve and which is intake

well I finally got this all figured out it ended up being a tight intake valve

I took a compression reading before doing any adjustments it had an 80 psi reading I then adjusted the valves well only one really the intake valve was tight and the exhaust valve was dead on so I only had to adjust the intake valve once I made the adjustment, checked and re checked just to make sure I had it rite she started rite up with out to much cranking what really amazes me is just how much a tight intake valve on these quads can affect the compression

compression reading before intake valve adjustment again was 80 psi after the intake valve adjustment 160 psi which puts it with in the specs it is supposed to be was not to bad of a job for a green horn

A suggestion I would make to everyone and anyone if you are having issues like I stated check your valves especially the intake valve as it does have a huge effect on compression on these things

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      I Crashed My Quad
Well the Way I Ride, some of you knew it was Inevitable.
      Below are Three Videos.
First one is Slow Motion of How it Happens.
Second one is Normal Speed, and what happens after the Accident.
Third one Follows more of what happens after .

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

      5 broken Ribs
      1 Punctured Lung
      1 Broken Collar Bone
2023 Quad Riding Season is Over for ME!

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?
