I've been working on two 2000 quadmaster and got the second one running.

The issue:
With the key in the first ON position the engine starts, and once started if I turn the key one more time to the right (to turn on lights) the engine cuts off as if a kill switch was activated. The lights DO turn on.

Does that sound like a fault in the ignition switch, or an issue farther down the harness?

It  is most likely a fault in the  switch. bypass the  switch's  ignition  lead so you have  power  to the  ignition   and then  turn the  switch  to the  lights on position.  If  it  continues to  run  then you know  the  switch   is faulty.

Get  a  probe  type  tester  to  see  which  wire  gets  power  when the ignition switch is turned to the first position .  Manfacturers   usually  don't  have  a common  code  for wiring  colours.  Each  model    and  make   have   their  own  codes listed  in their  service  manuals.  Without  one  you  need testers  and  probes to  trace  wires if   the  connections  aren't easily  visible and traceable from end to end .

got cha...yeah I think it is the switch too(at least I hope so)...since when you turn off the switch it closes the kill contacts, something inside is jacked up that closes the contacts when lights are turned on. We see that often on boat switches.

FIXED - took out the ignition switch and followed the continuity tests described in the service manual....rather than a KILL, when turning on the lights, the bridge between Red (power) to Orange (ignition) to Grey (lights) skipped the ignition and went to lights solely....took apart the switch and could see crud on the copper contacts, used a brass brush then some 600 grit sandpaper to clean up the contacts and re-did the tests...all good now.

whew...although the ignition switch is probably THE cheapest part on this ATV.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good.
I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.
I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

I'm working on my uncles grizzly and it sparks once on initial cranking then no more after that. If I let off the start button then press the start button again it will spark once then stop sparking. I was wondering if anyone seen this issue before.  Also I've never used forums before so sorry if this question is in the wrong location.
